Whats that red stuff around the paintwork??

Im currently doing my own restoration and Im wondering if theres anything that can provoke the rust from reappearing apart from hammerite???

the red stuff is red oxide paint just to stop the air oxidising any bare metal .
But i will also seam sealing all the joins and plenty of wax oil .
But firstly a weld through primer was applied

Can I just say that this is an absolutely first class effort, especially in light of the fact that you listened to some of the comments and then jumped in with both feet and went the whole hog. Mixing my metaphors there I think but I guess you understand what I'm saying (I hope!).

It's a massive commitment wallet-wise and just, well, really well done!

Just sorting the gaps and then a bit of welding and braising and hopefully it might have a coat of paint by xmass.

Just looking at the work there and cant make out how he welded the new back panel on by the lamp eatch side. im assuming he welded it as opposed to braized as it would of been originally? Im guessing he welded the 2 tappering edges where they meet on the inside of the boot? This was the way im gonna tackle mine when i get round to it. Excellent work btw!

Finally my car is all one colour .
We have put a base coat on the body just to help show all the little inperfections.
Next we will be wet sanding the hole car again with 1200 wet and dry to get that nice glossy look .
Then a few more base coats and then on with the lacker .
I cant tell you how exsited i was to see it all one colour after months of welding sanding ect ect its all starting to come togeather.
Here are a few pics .

Excellent work, I have only just discovered this thread. Well done, your the only other zoner I have seen who has replaced both rear quarters, inner arches and rear panel. I bet you can't wait to start re-building it.

Well done again :thumb:
