This is probably e30 related as a fair few of you probably have an e30 insured with norwich union.

My car is up for insurance renewal on the 12/8, a few days ago NU sent through a renewal form, stating what car, all my details, etc and a price for the renewal for the coming year.

This was Ԛ£687, i wasn't very happy with the price, so i phoned them up, actually spoke to someone English! explained that i wasn't to pleased with the renewal figure, a few seconds later he knocks Ԛ£40, not great but better than nothing. He didn't change anything so i just shows how easily they can save money if you complain.

Now here comes the good bit, for a different reason i decided to do few online quotes.

I came to NU site and did one, exactly the same as the one i'd just paid Ԛ£647 for, it came up as Ԛ£530!!!!!!!!

So what started off a renewal figure through the post at Ԛ£687 pounds when i checked on the internet it was Ԛ£530, they effectively are charging you Ԛ£150 for a renewal letter through the post!!!

I phoned them up and they could not offer a decent explanation as to why, i was not speaking to an english person this time, which i know it shouldn't but it forks me off. Even the 20% apparently saved on the internet does not bring it down to that figure, bearing in mind this was a policy originally set up on the internet you would expect and "internet" renewal price.

I changed a few things as i'm now becoming a student and do not need S,D,P and commuting and got it down to Ԛ£497, so a sving of Ԛ£190 for an hours swearing at what complete :wan: NU are.

SO BE VERY AWARE THAT BIG COMPANIES WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET MONEY OFF YOU I'M PRETTY SURE MOST PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE CHECKED AND WILL EFFECTIVELY LOSE HUNDREDS OF Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£

I hate NU and only use them because they are cheaper for me.

I've been with NU and dicthed them for More Than.

By doing:
* Online quote
* taking social, domestic, and pleasure only (its a second car)
* no legal cover or accident management
* no greenflag
* no whatever else is on offer,
* then haggling with the call centre

I knocked shed loads (like hundreds) off NU's "best quote" for repeat cover, plus got no claims protection as well!

In my opinion, insurance is basically a cartel and the best prices generally come from new market entrants that sell "at a loss" to gain market share. The supermarkets did this a couple of years ago, for example, and loads of people started raving about Tesco. These days they want the same as the main players, plus silly conditions about must get alarm fitted, must have no more than so many points, must be born on leap year, blah, blah, blah....

By the way, anyone ever tried to get "Classic Car" insurance? Great idea if you have no points for the last five years. But if you happen to drive any distance (I do 40K miles a year) then sooner or later you're going to get zapped so that is no goer either!

Awwww man :x :x :x :x

Lets not get me started on NU!

Lets just say when you want to make a claim there not the easiest of people to deal with.

I am in no-way racist but getting put to an Indian call centre everytime i ring can get a bit annoying, also not being able to speak direct to my none-existent claim handler!

Exactly the same happened with me. They added Ԛ£110 for the renewal and when my father phoned up they couldnt explain why and they couldnt do it for any cheaper. We did an internet quote and it was cheaper but they wouldnt allow us to have this price because we are not having a new policy or some other rubbish (wasnt english). We couldnt find it cheaper with anyone else so have to pay the extra Ԛ£110. Ive had no claims or points or anything so it is unexplainable....not best pleased really

yup, exactly the same for me. Through the post renewal of Ԛ£800ish and online quote renewal of Ԛ£400ish. Phoned them up, tried to tell me it was the 20% 'online discount'. Biggest 20% I'd ever seen!! Eventually they understood but couldn't explain it or do anything about it. Advised me to cancel my policy and take out a new one!! What the fook happened to customer loyalty etc when the company themselves are telling you to cancel your policy!!!Knobends!!
