Not a lot in it, really.
And the fact that it will hold its value and be easier to sell when you are finished with it.

Rust Trap Kit winkeye

So are you saying it will be 'more desireable' because of spec or because of the word 'sport'?

If, for example, you had a 325i with LSD, OBC, Sports seats, BBS, M-Tec suspension, RTK ( winkeye ), etc, how would it compare to a Sport?

Its the word.

I have bought and sold many sports and people always ask if its a real sport, they would pay the same money for a rough sport as a tidy se sport replica with sport spec.

Its the "sport" status.

People want the top model of any car and the sport is regarded as the "top" 325i.

After its done you will have spent the same money on fuel/postage/ diffs/ bodykits/ paint /ebay for the parts to replicate a sport and have an SE worth £1200 tops.

Better to buy a good sport, it will allways be worth what it cost you, if not more.
yep i agree with this as well , if you were going to try and turn an se into a sport then it would deff be cheaper too just buy a sport in the first place :D not only that but you wont be drivein a car with body kit half hangin off blowin in the wind lookin like your on the way home from your first tramp drift session :D

Main difference is the factory fitted "feeling of superiority" that came with sport models.

Sublime indeed, until you get to see the rust hidden under the kit

Sports will always command a premium regardless of condition, thats just the way it is, BMW GB knew exactly what they were doing back in the day and for them it paid off, lots of sports were sold.

A nice sport has lots of things going for it, 2 doors ( hate to say that coming from a moredoor freak), nice bodykit, nice selection of colours, all the mechanical trimmings as well etc, etc. the point is they look so good close up.

A decent sport with minimal rust will set you back £5,000 plus, just have a look on pistonheads etc, a ropey one in need of serious bodywork from about £1,500, i've seen some at £2,500 that to be honest neeed re-shelling........

Now my moredoor i just bought cost about the price of a really ropey sport, it has a 2.5 lump, mtech kit, nice special paint, heated sports leather seats, mtech suspension, 16" alpinas steering wheel and gearknob, decent dealer fit stereo and rearblind. My point is it looks good, in fact pretty much what i guess a moredoor sport would look like, obviously based on an SE it doesnt Have the LSD or close ratio gearbox to name a few standard sport parts.

However it will never command any where near the price a decent sport will fetch and will always be a well specced moredoor 325 SE, it is what it is, i knew that when i bought it.

Sports are the most popular E30 going (excluding the M3 from this thats a different story altogether) they probably always were, and will probably always will be.

It's one of those cars that most wanted or dreamed about in the late 80's/early 90's, hence its popularity now i suppose, i certainly didnt dream about my 320 auto moredoor back then thats for sure.............

What i'm gettting at is that for the E30 its iconic along side the M3 and because of this has elevated status within the E30 community, just like other models of cars do in other car communities, there are always one or two models that stand out from the crowd, were lucky we have at keast two :D :D

Well thats my opinion for whats its worth, could be boll*cks but who really cares, we like what we like, things are just the way they are and probably wont change so theres bug*er all we can do about it, if you have the money then buy a decent sport, if you dont then like me dont, but theres no point moaning about it....

well from what i've read in this thread (from start to finish) it's seems to me that those who keep slating the 325i sport (tec 1 or 2) are the one's who haven't got one to put none to fine a point on it.

let's put it this way a few years ago i used to work with a bloke who had seen my sport (there's THAT word again) at work on the few times i took it to work & he decided that he wanted one as well now despite the fact i tracked down a near as damit mint tec 1 he turned to me & said that he would rather go out & buy a standard 325i & hunt down all the parts he'd need to turn into a sport in all but name right down to the gearbox ffs!.

by the time he had finished (it took him the best part of nearly 2 years!!) he had spent nearly double what i paid for my tec 2 sport (bear i mind i paid £2700 nearly 3 years ago) he had a collection of parts & a bodyshell that needed welding.

the best bit was the look on his face when i told him he could of got a totally mint standard tec 2 or tec 1.

he drove it around for about 8 months (after paying out god knows how much to have all the bit's he'd bought fitted & the welding done only to end up trying to sell it & only getting £1300 for it lol.

so if you ask me if you don't want to spend the extra to get your hands on a gen clean sport then don't. it's as simple as that so get over it & stop having a go at them.

MODS for god's sake lock this thread before it get's out of hand & starts to really stupid like the 318is v 325i threads.

a sports a sport and requires a higher premium than a se... as much as some people dont like it they do. you can retro fit all the sport bits but it will still only be a sport kitted se..
i think everything that needs to be said has been said... and the thread has ran its course.

yes, and as such it will be EXACTLY THE SAME TO DRIVE.

so to the OP.
whats the difference.
bugger all except a few ticked option boxes and a ridiculous public perception that means a Sport is massively overpriced.

oh yeah one other thing, someone mentioned that all the people slating sports (which isnt what we are actually doing btw) didnt have them or couldnt afford them. Thats not true in my case, ive had several E30's including genuine Sports, and if i wanted another Sport im in a position that i could easily go out and buy one.

i dont think the cost factor comes into it... i would be more than happy with a standard 2 door with the sport bits put on at a later date.. why?? because the door pods are rust incubators.
a sports a sport... an se's an se... now lets move on.. build a bridge and get over it everyone!

What this thread comes down to, is that if you buy a Sport and 'modify' it, you will probably devalue it, while if you buy a 325i or SE and 'modify' it, you may well increase its value.
Conclusion: If you want a 'modified' 325, don't start with a Sport.
