There's a story that mobil 1 oil company bought a 325i and employed people to drive it around a track all day and servicied it only on their oil until it hit 1 million miles and then sent the engine back to bmw under a assumed name asking for it to be stripped down and measured for wear, bmw wrote back saying that they could n't understand what was wrong with the engine as it was still within the manufactoring limits! dont know if it's true, but it would be cool if it was!

My Alpina has 228k on it and it feels tight and strong. It has had a service history for most of it's life and I have now over 3 folders of resciepts. Had a shell replacement in 99 and bar a few little things it's still in really nice condition.

The only thing I can think to explain all the racks is the steering coupling. It was fubared and I think the previous owner must have tried 2 refurbed racks to get rid of the lumpiness caused by this.
The latest rack is an E36 one ”“ with a fresh coupling I might add!
