Steering wheels, everyone needs one but which one :)

Ive been collecting wheels since my E30 has been in the garage and I want something different if not original.

So, I need opinions and thoughts as to which way to go :?

This is what is on at the minute....

Image

This is the original wheel - M Tech 1

Image

M Tech 2 ( which was kindly donated by Boyd-cecotto479 and needs a refurb) anyone got one they want to donate

Image

Early Alpina pre 87 I think and also my favourite

Image

Later Alpina

Image

So which one should I go for :?:

Earlly and late alpina 4 spoke wheels are the same diameter which i think are the same size as large tech 1 and 2 wheels, 385mm.

8) Cheers Karan, it's a great wheel and the more I see/feel it, it's the one I think I want on the car.

The later Alpina wheel maybe up for grabs in the near future if anyone is interested PM me

I've got a (now a little tatty) Nardi steering wheel-these were proper factory accessory wheels, they're listed on the parts computer.

Have to say I don't like the style but they do feel nice to use, I ended up fitting a tech-2 wheel instead.

I am just jealous of you for getting to choose from a great selection - I can't imagine any of them not looking the goods!!! Here I am all poverty (yet still excited) because I swapped my stock plastic wheel for a tech 1

That's stunning, Barry! Beautiful wheel indeed. Is it yours? If so any info on availability? Can these still be got?

We suffer a real lack of parts in Australia and such things as these never, ever appear. As an example, I've only ever seen one Nardi wheel for sale in the country. Bit backwards, us lot! LOL!

AlpineAde they still sell them new from the BMW dealer. But you might get raped if you asked a Australian BMW dealer.

I have an MTech II wheel. I love it. But my fav wheel has always been the Nardi Blackline. They look beautiful (to me).

That Alpina wheel of Barry's has really turned my head, too. Gogeous.

Two beautiful wheels that I might just swap my one over for.

Our dealers tend not to carry anywhere near the amount of stuff as your fellows do. A lot of things are special order.

But....

I HAVE to ask about that wheel.

It's beautiful.

I'd happily pay a subs6tantial sum for a new wheel like that.

Barry, if you check back in, could you post your opinion on it? (Oh, and a part number?) Thanks, man.

It sure is mine, in my sport to be precise.

Part number is 91473233031 and it was £250+vat from my local dealer. I had to wait 6 months for it to turn up but another zoner saw it soon after i fitted it so he ordered one to and his turned up in a couple of weeks so i guess i had to wait till they made another batch up.

Another place you can try are these guys,

Thank you so much, Barry. I really appreciate the information. I wonder if we can even order these through Australian dealers? Apparently the trick is to have a part number and this I now have (lovely!)

I think that price fair ~ and if I could pick up such a wheel for an extra 50 pounds I'd still go for it.

And thanks for the second picture. It gives a good idea of what the wheel looks like in situ. Gauge visibility looks great, too.

Cheers, man. :thumb:
