because it's not there are a thousand cars that are prettier out there.

As for foreign drivers, how about you should have anticipated his actions slowed down and then you may have been avoiding the accident instead of getting caught out by the severe lack of pace the iS really has..

bad luck mate, i feel for you. some old dear (about 110 years old) drove into the n/s/f of my e36 iS last week and i had the estimator look at it today. i reckon they'll say my car's only worth £500 (it's an "L" reg) so may offer me £400 "to retain the salvage" i.e. get £400 and keep the car. it's only a dented front wing really, so i'll be happy with that. if the estimate is 60% or more of what they consider the value to be, then they will write it off probably, so good luck. stand your ground!

To be fair to foreign drivers! After spending 15 years in Germany it the english who can nt drive! no one seems to know that when you pul out into the over taking lane that you pull back in again when the middle lane is clear and so on!!!!!!!
Rather than sat in the outside lane making that lane slower than the other two :x

Anyone remember their driving lessons?

If you do, then you shouldn't wonder why so many people on the roads are such terrible drivers.

Good advice for you there, Bob. I suggest you heed it!

I agree that some drivers sit inconsiderately in the outside lane, on the other hand the purpose of the 'overtaking lane' is not so that everyone else can get out of your way. If I overtake a car but there's another one 50 yds ahead that I'll need to overtake very soon I'm not going to pull over and get boxed in by the stream of nose to tailgate muppets in the outside lane, especially if I'm doing a perfectly reasonable 80mph.

This is the difference of course. In the Fatherland, 80mph in the outside lane will get you killed.

And is that an example of what safe drivers they are?

to be fair I think a topic title of "foreign drivers should be shot" is not only threatening, down right disgraceful and above all a a very bold sweeping statement which is obviously complete and utter bollocks.

If people used the search function we wouldn't have so many stupid useless posts floating about which have been covered before. We live in a lazy world where it's easier for someone else to do the leg work for us.. funny how the foreigners can be arsed to move over find a job and make a living when we have so many people claiming more benefits than the government can offer.

When you wake in the morning with many aches & pains give me a shout :)

Happy to help you along with the claim in general as you will undoubtedly get served up with some poor offers for the car. As Brian has said, try to resist having to leave the car at an approved garage of the insurers, tell them it is staying on your driveway and that is where they can inspect it. There is no point getting an estimate/ costing up the repairs for a 18 year old BMW with sill damage etc as it is always going to be a write off. By keeping the car at home/ on private property you have a much better chance of keeping the salvage.

As a general rule, salvage values are usually about 10% of the vehicle's pre-accident value (on cars worht less than £3K) So if the car is valued at £1500, you'll probablty have £150 deducted from the write off settlement if you want to keep it.

Golden rule with any claim, keep your receipts for anything you are spending money on as a result of the accident, take some pics of the car damage for reference purposes.

What difference does it make that he was foreign?

Couldn't you have drifted round the outside of him or something?

Have to say as a foreigner in the UK i see some appaling driving in my travels... Most of which comes from UK registered cars... In fact on the way to autosport show over the weekend was with a mate in his Civic Type R, doing about 80mph on the M40 we were quite literally run off the road by an older english (looking) bloke in a fairly new Jag... Didn't even look as he changed lanes! Even after the gestures from myself in the passanger seat as we finally passed him did he realise or even notice what he'd done.

Just glad your ok. Keep the car away from authorised repairers, as suggested make them come to you or if you have someone you trust that owns a garage leave it with them for any inspections etc

Hope you get your car sorted mate; I know how gutting this sort of thing is, and what makes it worse is the insurance companies that have us over a barrel. They ask for stupid prices, then when it comes to paying out, try to wriggle out of it and offer stupidly low figures.

Thought I might add, there are a lot of terrible French drivers over here that drive 90mph even in foggy, rainy conditions. One rear ended my touring at a junction.....

It's an example to illustrate the difference between driving in the UK and Germany. In the UK people act as self appointed traffic cops by setting their own speed limit in the outside lane. On the Autobahns you need to stay awake and look in your rear view mirror constantly because the speed differential could be 120mph on top of your 80mph.

..all though the fact it was a foreigner could have contributed to the accident if they are used to driving on the left and were looking the wrong way... its an easy mistake to make. more than once ive stopped at a roundabout or junction and pulled out the wrong way if there was no other traffic to keep me right both here and in europe.

Would be interesting to compare the road fatality figures between
Germany and us. By us, i mean people living and driving in Britain :)

You've had cars fly past you while you were doing 160mph!
I'll admit I've never driven in Germany but if what you say is even close to true I would get off the Autobahn pretty damned quick. Not even the most jumped up Jeremy Clarkson could claim that everything is safe on a public road at those speeds.

@m4xos:
Sorry to hear about the smash, questioning the nationality, gender, sexual orientation, parentage, genetic integrity, of the cause of the damage is all entirely legitimate and normal under the circumstances.
