I'm really not sure about the German Crest?
On the IOM, cars built before 1/2/90 can have black non-reflective number plates.

the swastika also goes back centuries but you wouldnt use that either.greentouring wrote:I would trim them, mate. It looks nicer.
Just as a side-note, the eagle has nothing to do with the Nazi party, although some who don't know their history may get this confused with this political party. The eagle symbol actually goes back centuries in German history. I may be wrong, but I think that symbol is still used today on certain German flags; no doubt if will always have an ominous stigma attached to it because of past history.

Ah yes, but the swastika was originally an Indian symbol pinched by the Nazis, where as the eagle crest is a traditional German symbol.fuzzy wrote:the swastika also goes back centuries but you wouldnt use that either.greentouring wrote:I would trim them, mate. It looks nicer.

They do, but I wanted something a bit different, thats why I wanted German font in white. Here's my golf I had a few years back with black/silver:eko wrote:Not a fan here either sorry!
Standard Black/Silver pressed ali ones would look cool though

It's registered on the IOM and was manufactured before 1/2/90, so the only requirements are height / spacing / width of letters, with no italics. I could have just tip-exed the number plate on if I wanted! The only thing that may not be legal is the 'zero' instead of 'O', but seeing as they don't distinguish between O and 0 on UK or IOM number plates this may be fine.The_Diddler wrote:Not my bag, don't think they are legal either, you may get tugged by your local plod for those......................

Surely even the dumbest plod would know from the reg that it wasn't a UK car?magpie wrote:you will get a tug off mr plod.and the gits keep you at the roadside for ages with everyone gawping at you like you just robbed someone.
most annoying and inconvenient.
your car though

Also no MOT on IOM!bmwsport wrote:Not my bag, sorry. Is it really worth all the aggro being pull over all the time and failing MOT's for persuing a borderline barryboy modification? Blank standard plates with standard font actually look ok when missing the silly icons in the left corner and the dial a turd car dealership imprints

I think in the UK you can put black and white plates on cars built before something like 1972, that sort of era.magpie wrote:i asked about black and white plates at my local, m,d,c and he said it would be illegal

I think you can drive a car until it falls to bits. There is a Manx Road Test, if a car is imported and is over 3 years old (IIRC), or if it has been untaxed for more than 2 years then it has to go through the test.bmwsport wrote:No MOT!? Does that mean you could actually drive the car until it falls to bit or is there some kind of control over the condition of ones vehicle?
Give them a trim tomorrow, take some pics and post them up. Maybe if done properly they might look ok.
