hi iv been looking to buy a new car for a few months now, i love my older retro cars and have had a few cars in mind from a renault 5 gt turbo, audo quattro 190e etc but im been drawn back to the e30 bmw, from what i have seen 325is go from as little at 1k up to 3-4 k + really i dont want to spend more than 1.5k is this unrealistic? are parts still really expensive how reliable are they and what kind of mpg can you get if drivern nicely?

You should be able to pick up a decent 325 for that budget, parts aren't really expensive, they are near enough always available, about 25mpg i think

Parts are cheap and plentiful, just ask Spadge. £1.5k is very realistic, you can get a very nice one for that. Fuel economy can be between 20 - 30 miles per gallon. It may be worth getting a Speedtouch chip for £30 which will help.

While £1.5k is a fair budget for a 325i there are not many around at the moment, I know because I've been looking for a while. Dont think you'll pick up a decent 325is for that though, that'll be more of the £3-4k range.

There is more choice if you look at both 2 and 4 door models and as I understand it there is no weight difference, just a question of aesthetics!

If the car is well looked after they are very reliable (starting to wish I had not sold my last one) Most people report 25-35ish mpg.

good luck with the hunting, not that we are biased or anything but get an e30 if you can!

It was full of holes! Good for someone to drive into the ground as it has 12 months ticket but no good for the project car I was hoping to find.

Have my eye on another one but we'll have to see how it goes on that one.
