Anyone on here who lives within a 100-150 mile radius of Edinburgh, who would consider themself an expert in all things M10 - I'm looking to pay someone to help me perform a weber carb conversion - I'm in the process of trying to find a 32/36 twin choke Weber from a 2 litre Ford (Capri/Cortina/Sierra/Granada) and fit this using the Webcon Weber adapter.

Hope that someone can help!

Dood...

You can do this conversion in a couple of hours, tops....

A few spanners, a drill (for the choke cable and mounting of the control) and a couple of screwdrivers is all you need...

Be aware, though, that the carb will need re-jetting and, very possibly, new chokes...Unless it is free, I'd be tempted to buy a new carb with correct jets/chokes/tubes already installed...
That way you *know* it is good and gonna run properly!!

Hi

I can sell you a manfold for a couple of 40's far better solution, but i would get a scrap efi setup from a 318i and use that better in the long run.

But if you spec to Stephanie at edinburgh retro cars 01316612407 they just done that weber conversion on an 2002.

But carbs are easy to set up difficult to get running right I just got a £250 rolling road bill for setting mine up. This might sound odd but probably cheaper to an another e30 than mess on with a carb swap unless yours is mint

Hi Jason,
My car is a mint, totally original 87' 316 coupe with 50k on the clock and FBMWSH. It's got the M10 1767cc engine with 90bhp. However, I want to try and increase this by 10-20bhp to make it a wee bit more fun to drive.
I'll contact Edinburgh Retro Cars and see what they can do! Cheers for the referral!
Kindest regards,
Alasdair

Hi

Uprated cams, twin webers. 4 branch and mapable ignition, then a 2.0l conversion if you want to keep it old school.

In my experince the weber converiosn will not give that amount of power increase, with out a hotter cam.

I'm with Jason...

The Weber conversion will not release more power (or at least not much), but will cure all the nasty problems associated with the stock autochoke carb...

I'm getting there - spoke with Stephanie & John at ERC and they advised on the twin weber and uprated cams. They advised trying to get a hold of a good quality 2nd hand 2litre weber - Can anyone advise on the exact kind I need - Model no/name/etc, as i don't want to buy the wrong one.

iv got an M10 lump in my e21 and i think its a good base to start of with if you can get parts for it. . . look up the m10 on google.

im after bmw 2002 parts to make mine a 2.0. these engines love turbos too! where to get cams from though? apparently a 318iS cam with modification can go in and even an s14 cam. but apparently not worth the work???

You can get Schrick cams for the M10 and they aren't too expensive, either (£350ish)...

The best bottom end is the 2 litre block form a 2002 or E21 320/4 or an E12 520/4
The best head is from the E28 518i (largest valves)

You can fit an S14 2.3 crank without mods...use 02 conrods and Mahle hi-comp pistons...

Best injection is mechanical (Kugelfischer) on slide throttles, but twin Weber/Dell'ortos work well, too...

With a bit of care and a bit extra cash it is possible to get well over 200bhp from these motors...I had a (100% reliable) 195bhp one on Webers in my old 02 racer...

Have a chat with R W Weavers (Glasgow based bmw indy)

I know they have swapped Pierburgs for Webers on the M10 in the past.

Andy is a top bloke, there's not alot he doesn't know about BMWs ... especially the old skool stuff.

What did Andy think about the Webers?

Said they were very easy to do and that it would solve any issues that could normally arise with the Shi**y Pierburg stock carb. Also said that there was a noticeable increase in performance and fuel economy with the weber fitted to the 316.
Managed to get my hands on a brand new weber 32/34 DMTL kit for the 316 at £150 and they would do the fitting for £80 anytime in the next few days.

All in all a good result - Thought i'd have to spend £300-350 to get it done well with good parts!!

That's a good price for the carb, ... and for the install too.

Weavers did the same swap on a neighbours 316 a while ago, and he was/is pleased with the results.

Let us know how you get on?

Craig.

Hi rattler,

Sorry for the delay in passing this info on - The weber conversion has been great for the car - Feels like its been given a new lease of life!
Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone with a 316! Andy at Weavers did it for less than originally quoted - great bloke, brill service!
