Warning to all South London Zoner's!!
Moderator: martauto
As some of you may know I had a few troubles with a tyre company near me (Norwood/Croydon). The company had told me that they don't damage alloy wheels when changing tyres over hence why I went there. I wanted to get all my tyres changed round for Santa Pod.
On returning to my car the O/S/F wheel had a massive gouge out of it ( some of you know how anal I am about keeping my alloys clean and unmarked ). I was not impressed and spoke to the manager directly who agreed not to charge me for the worked carried out.
I then had to rush home and get the wheel of so I could refurb it for Santa Pod. I then discovered all the wheels had been severely over torqued and I nearly broke a wheel brace trying to get them off.
On the way down to the Pod I found that the rear wheel(s) we're out of balance and making the car vibrate at anything over 70mph.
I thought that was the end of the cock ups!!.
On wedenesday I took my car to the local kwik fit who then re-balanced the rear wheels, only to discover that all the tyres had been inflated to 35psi (no wonder I was struggling off the line at Santa Pod!).
The company that inflicted this to my car are called 'Tyre Trax' and they are located on the Portland Road opposite Croydon Race and Rally.
You have been warned!! shoot.gif

same thing happened to me, but i was lucky i got 1 tyre off them, so only got one alloys damaged. But i was still very pisssed off, as i had asked beforehand if there was a chance of them getting scratched or any little mark on them, he said nope. But by the time he had finished, there were enough marks, scrathces etc on them.
These alloys were brand spanking new, got them ordered from germany cost me nearly £900ish about, but lcuky still it was only one.
This shop was on green lane near safari sounds. the only reeason i went to him cos i needed some weird size tyres second hand, and he happend to have them so i thought i try them.
never again though....
cliffy why dont you like race and rally, what happend...

I used to run a tyre fitting depot for bikes and cars and there is no excuse for marking alloys, just lazy fitters that don't give a f**k!!!
I HATE MARKS ON MY ALLOYS

i know exactly how you feeel, there are some fussy people out there, but then theres perfecctionists, wichh i think we are. the tyre people either dont know how to fit tyres on, or they dont have the right tools.
As when i got mine done, he spent nearly 2 hours trying to put the tyre on, not sure how hard it is to stretch a tyre on a little, but that took the piss, especially after damaging the alloy. But then i took it to another tyre place they put it on straight away.

I've had nothing but grief with tyre fitting places. More than often the jack the car up on the floor, tighten the wheel bolts so that they are not removable by hand etc etc.
The last one I took my tech1 to jacked it up on the bottom of the sideskirt, causing the clip that holds it to the wing to break

what about RSR in beddington croydon ? I'm sure they had a butler tyre changer iirc
Agreed, NO excuse for caning up alloys, its not a hard task to swop the rubber , even on 19" +
I hope the culprits are treating you to a refurb Andy ?

theres a garage near selhurst, called ansams something, they can get new tyres in, theres a guy call leo in there, knows his shit. They have rim protectors in there, depending on the size of the wheel you got.
I do all my own refurbs now and I would'nt trust the same monkey's with my rims again!!Ant wrote:what about RSR in beddington croydon ? I'm sure they had a butler tyre changer iirc

There's a guy on the Soarer forums who works at a place in SW11, called Budget Motorist Centre.
People with soarers travel hundreds of miles for tyres and also alignments as especially on the alignment front they are very very good. There have been many members who have had supposed 4 wheel alignments done elsewhere and still found the settings to be wrong.

Every tyre place ive ever been to puts way too much pressure in the tyres. The last place put 42psi in
The first thing I do when ive had new tyres is find an airline and do the job properly! i.e. Myself!!!

I agree, but since moving out of the motor industry I have to use other peopleRich_W wrote:I don't trust any company to fit my tyres without marking the rims.

If you want aquality job at the right price try Micheldever Tyres, Micheldever, Hampshire. They are the only place in the South for performance tyres and quality fitting and balancing. What you will save on price will more than pay for a tank of fuel, plus you can have a great run out into the Hampshire countryside. !
Tyre fitters are generally the least skilled person in the motor trade and most of them are useless idiots. There is no excuse for damaging wheels when fiting tyres other than lack of competance. Over tightened wheel bolts and over inflated tyres are totaly unacceptable to and are not exactly complex. If the relavent data is not available then ask the customer ffs!
We have full tyre fitting services at our place with a fiting machine less than two years old and our balacer is regularly calibrated. We regularly fit tyres to brand new wheels up to 20" for accident repaired vehicles in our large bodyshop (the one that did Simon13's ALPINA body resto and my Sport repaint) and damage to wheels is totaly unaceptable.
We are also a group 4 & 7 MOT testing station and are probably cheaper than anyone local.
