Hi,

I parked my car at the side of a quiet road yesterday...when I got back, I found that some $%&* had stoved in the rear o/s arch so that the bodywork was touching the top of the tyre. The panel above the arch is also dented. I managed to lever the arch out with a krooklock so I could drive home without shredding the tyre, but now in the sunlight, it just looks a mess

I guess i'm going to have to cut the arch out and replace it, so it's maybe a good idea to replace the inner arch as well.

Can anyone tell me how much these parts cost and where to get hold of them? An estimate of what the whole job might cost would be useful too...

Cheers...

Shit! Thats bad. Looks like it will need a new rear quarter and 'outer' inner arch :( Thats probably near £700-£1000 repair at worst. Thats what I would budget anyhow.

Do you have protected no claims?

Really?

I'm third party, so it's all coming out of my pocket. Worse still, i've just spent my car fund (£700+) on having the wheels / brakes / wishbones replaced...my IS was one day away from being pretty much finished.

I'm praying that the top part can be tapped out, leaving just the inner & outer arches to replace. If the bill comes to £700 - £1000, then i'm screwed.

On the plus side, the petrol flap lock has started working for the first time. :?

Shit, that's a real pity
It wouldn't be too bad if it was the front arch or the door but 1/4 panels are always messy :(

Lovely colour for an iS too...

Just under £200... sounds a bit more optimistic.

Did you have just the outer arch replaced, or the inner as well? Did that price include the paint? How much of the arch was replaced?

Its a two door. You can reach most of that once you remove the card from inside, Get a panel beaters set of dollys, a tub of filler and a can of primer for about a score and then it'll only cost you a top coat.
New quarter and inner arch  insurance companies must love people like you 8O

Thanks for your replies.

I've spent an hour going at it with a pair of pliers and some rubbing paste, and it's looking a bit better now. Will try and get some quotes tomorrow....

cheers...

feel for you mate, especially when the pri*ks do a duster.

however, that isnt a big job at all. there was a guy on the zone, who had both arches replaced, and they were about £15.90 each side. i think it was the outers only. inners wont be too far off. looks like a easy repair, and should be sorted £300-£400.

good luck with the quotes

Cost will depend on how good a repair you want done.

Having a patern arch slaped on and covered up with a sh1t load of P40 then given a desert storm repaint with the minimum of trim removal and the maximum of masking up is all you will get for £2-400.

That quarter is creased to f*ck and any repair will require quite a bit of filler so if you do decide to take the low cost option then make sure the person doing the work is good or the result will be very riplely.

A new quarter is about £250 btw.

Its repairable, the end result will as said by bss325 be wavey... A good panel smacker would work wonders with that but it will cost a lot.

Believe me if you saw my girlfriends 1/4 just a few days ago you would of said it needed a panel, I repaired it to a good enough standard :D

Another thing not in your favour is the colour, that and Silvers are bast4rds to get right.

A reversable slide hammer and stud welder will sort it out few 'heavy' coats of filler and jobs a fairly good one (depending what monkey dos it that is)

I found a map on a website that showed the location of 'Parking Enforcement Cameras', and discovered one overlooking the bay I was parked in.

Just been down to the nick to request the footage :D .

I know it's a long shot, but who knows...

Fitted the 15" BBS last night, but found the damaged arch rubbed when coming off speed humps. Wishbones & M3 bushes and brakes going on tomorrow...this car WILL get built even if it kills me

well I offered to watch it for them, but I don't think they liked that idea. anyway, I'm sure they've got a crack CSI team working 24 7 on it...just like they do in Flying Police Camera Chase Crash.

Got a quote last night for £500 - £600 from a reputable body shop with a 'Miricle Pull' machine. Ouch.

Also, the bill for the brakes / wishbones / service was a 30% higher than expected due to new brake pipes and a few other bits & pieces.

Then I got home and found a speeding ticket (35mph) on my doormat.

Gnnnnn.

On the plus side...

...the garage fixed the rubbing

...the new brakes (EBC disks, Greenstuff pads & 4.1 fluid) feel good (still bedding them in so haven't really tested them yet)

...the new wishbones & M3 bushes, and 15" bbs wheels have made an enormous difference to the steering. Everything feels solid & straight, vibration is reduced, and turn in at speed feels fantastic. Definately worth doing.

So, it's not all bad =)

Would it have something to do with a 'Speed Awareness Course'? Sounds good and would avoid points, but costs £20 more than the fine.

be aware though that attempts to avoid jusstice are viewed far more seriously by courts and usually end up with a far worse sentence than if youd admitted your guilt at the start.
