Scorpion exhaust inquiry

Hello,

I am considering getting a Scorpion exhaust for my 325i, but since nobody here in the US seems to have these, I can't find any information on them. But I understand they are huge in the UK, so maybe you can recommend them/warn against them.

This would be what I would be getting:



I don't know if this is the same thing available in the UK. It costs 1/2-2/3 as much as the other "cat back"s available, so it seems like a good deal.

In general are Scorpions junk/quality? Longevity? What are they packed with? Thanks in advance

Go for a Stebro instead, they are made in Canada and I use that on my old E32 and it sounds like a devil and it makes the earth shake every time I start it up....

I have fitted a Scorpion Le Mans and she makes my 325Cab growl when accelerating. It is stainless, built well and shines beautifully. It doesn't look like a boy racer exhaust as it is a similiar shape to the original BMW exhaust, (a little bigger). As for the technical spec, didn't go into that as mine is a 21 year old car and the Scorpion is probably better than she's ever had in the past. Very pleased with it. Price for me was £200 not including the fitting kit which is a further £25. This was just for the back box as it bolted straight onto the original pipes.

My car currently has a dodgy backbox which is really loud on low revs, but sounds sweet top end.

I want something that isn't so loud low down the revs but gives a good sound when you give it some.

I have an auto and as i move off it sounds like i'm revving the crap out of the car, when i'm only doing 1.5-2K

My mate had a scorpion on his 325....scorpion in my opinion has to be the best sounding exhaust for 325's!!! Nice and suttle with a great roar when you put your foot down!!

Wow, Stebro must have recently increased the price. It used to be $595(Stebro was one of the other systems I was considering). I can get the Scorpion for $399, almost $300 cheaper!

I have heard Stebro on BMWs, Ferraris and Alfa Romes and the sound is so horney and so brutal compeer to what I have heard from other exhaust system (Remus, Ansa, Supersprint etc)

And other thing with Scorpion is: Do they make systems to Ferrari? No!
Do they make systems to Alfa Romeo? No! Do they make systems to Maserati? No! Do they make systems to Lotus? No! Do they make systems to Lamborghin? No!

So how can you be able to make a good exhaust who sounds good when you dont provide products to the cars who is known world wide for their exhaust note who is like music for petrol heads?

As long as they make a system for a e30 that doesn't do your head in when you're idling, it's good enough for me. Whether they produce for the big marques matters little to me as most of the one's you've mentioned are Italian, and thus a completely different specie from the bavarian beauties we behold on this site.

I don't doubt they're probably good, but would i pay £100 more to get something that's louder and harder to live with on my everyday car...the answer would be NO.

It looks like we cant agree on that one, my answer is diffrent than yours, YES I would like to pay £100 extra for a Stebro than a Scorpion because I want something extra, I want to buy a product from a manufactor who know how a good tune from a performance system should sound like. I can also see that Scorpion doesnt make exhaust for E32 and E34 either so its a dead end for me.
My Stebro sounds sweet and it dont blow my head of, its just that it have a low deep sound when you start it up!

Simply put, if the Scorpion is quieter on idle/low revs then that's what meets my requirements for THIS car. If i had a car that i used for fun then i'd probably want a more potent exhaust.

To be fair i've just watched a few vids on youtube of cars with Stebro exhausts, and they do sound good. Would be interested to see/hear a clip of a e30 with it. Who knows it may change my mind.

i like the sound of it, but people do turn around in the street because its quite loud
the videos might give you some idea anyway if its too loud for you

this is a full scorpion system by the way (not just backbox etc)

its quite a low rumble at idle, but gets quite noisy on the motorway

My 10+ year old Scorpion is still in very good nick.
I recently had apart and re-packed it because it had got very noisy. This turned-out to be because it had become so badly carboned-up it was just like having plain pipes. It is still in good shape internally to, in spite of its age.
I'm using it with the standard BMW front section. It's slightly louder up to 4500rpm, growls up to 5500rpm, then goes quiet again.

I should add that when we re-packed it, we didn't stuff the packing in as tight as the original stuff. That may or may not have made a slight difference to the sound deadening.

The packing is a woolly sort of stuff - a bit like the (Rockwool??) stuff used for loft insulation.
