I'm in the process of buying some 17'' BBS RY wheels for my m3
They are 17x8 at the front and 17x9 at the rear, offset is 15,
Will these go on the car without any work?
What size tyres should I put on them to ensure there is no fouling of the arches etc?
The car is completely standard btw

Hi

Are these wheels from an E30 M3? and are you putting them on a normal E30? if so they will not work as the M3 wheels are five stud and the normal E30 are four stud. I am sure somone will be along to correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that I am right!

I also believe that the largest diameter factory wheel on an M3 was 16"

Will the wider arches on the m3 mean that they won't stick out as much?
I'm just hoping that they'll be ok as I've been chasing these wheels for a while now!!

you should be fine. The wide arches will cover what sticks out in mine. i'm running 235 40 rears and have to go the euro look to keep it in the guards.

Good stuff!!
Mine will only be 17x9 at the back as opposed to your 17x9.5
Hopefully they go on without a hitch!!
Thanks

They will be fine mate. The et will mean theres not much of a gap between the wheel and caliper on the front but they wont touch. Tyre wise - 235 rears 215/225 on the front would be fine.

215 40 front, 235 40 rear will work fine and look good. et15 and those widths with sensible tyres should be fine.

i run the same tyres on 8 and 9x17 et 20 and 22 and have plenty of room, a 10mm spacer all round would be no problem.
cheers,

harry

Will the wheels work fine as they are or do I need spacers for them to work with the tyre size you suggest?

They'll be fine spacerless. If you decide to go big brake in the future, you may need a spacer.. Depends on the style of rim. The M5 Dustbin lids come in a range of widths and ET:

17x8 Et20 (common)
17x8 et10 (less common -I think these were the 840/850 fronts)
17x9 et 22 (not so rare-M5 'Ring setup)

With ET 20 I had to remove the rattle clip when I had new pads it was that close. ET10 will clear it no probs. The rears on a standard E30 will fit, you just have to be sensible about drop and tyre selection!
