I've taken mine off now, the dibble is having a crackdown on dodgy plates at the moment.

That's because the cop thought "Look at that clever c**t sticking two fingers up at the law, let's do him".RUSHY wrote: Got pulled over sunday morning because of these, £30 on the spot fine, the c**k, i mean cop said they're clamping down on non original plates........gonna put normal lettering back on - but not 80mm
German plates are illegal for road use in the UK - that's why the sellers say "For off-road use only".
Your "not 80mm
For all those who feel the need to be "different", READ THIS.
Just remember, illegal plates are all the excuse the the cops need to pull you. Do you really need the hassle?
I'm not surprised, they are totally illegibleRUSHY wrote:

any copper who pulls a car for german plates obviously has nothing better to do and is a total jobsworth.
in a word, no.hammoj28 wrote:I have german plates at the moment but im thinking of getting pressed metal U.K ones. Are pressed U.k font ones legal? I just really like the pressed plates. Makes a huge difference.
but theyre a lot less likely to draw unwanted attention than the blatant piss take ones a lot of people use, then complain about getting a fine for
the standards are all clearly defined, so if you're blatantly seen to be flouting them then it's no wonder people get pulled for dodgy plates. if youre happy to drive around obviously breaking the rules, then what else might you be dong wrong? it's like a lot of other things, something that makes your car stand out and make you an obvious target, and an easy 30quid fine.
i got pulled aout 3 years ago for a smaller than standard italian look pressed plate on the front of my lancia, and got a #30 fine. did i bitch, moan and whinge about it? no, i knew i was wrong, paid up and stuck a normal plate on, keeping the smaller one for special occasions. also ran around for a while with no front plate, but never got pulled for that
cheers,

Exactly, i know fine im breaking the law so if i do get fined its my own fault and il prob take em off and get pressed u.k ones as i know they are still illegal but i don't think they will draw as much attention.

In Ireland, Any car older than 91 can have any type of plate the onner wishes as long as it has the numbers can be read easy enough.
I'm getting a set of German style plates too soon enough. The last owner had them when it was in the UK and I miss the look of them.
The best was the evening I brought the car home. Mate that has a Sport was telling me that the other lads working with him saw a lovely german one passing through town on the way in to work

Lol, tell me about it. I had some random guy in the petrol station walk up and ask if id sell it last friday. Happens a fair bit, i think people just think they can get it really cheap if they do that.

German style plates are still a big grey are a though. The mandatory font etc is specified for vehicles registered after 1st September 2001, and also for new plates made after that date. What's to say the plates haven't been on the car since before then ?
If it aint broke - Modify it...

Your "not 80mm" plates are going to land you with another £30 fine.

No, it's called upholding the law. It's what they're paid to do. They don't make the law, they just enforce it. You wouldn't complain about them being "jobsworths" if they upheld the law in your favour.doughboy wrote: any copper who pulls a car for german plates obviously has nothing better to do and is a total jobsworth.
You don't like the law? Tough. Either get over it or campaign to get the law changed. Good luck with that one.
I warned about the clampdown a couple of months ago on this very forum. Some people said "so what, I'll do it anyway". This is the result.
Getting all excited about a different font on your plates? Get a life!!!

But if it's perfectly legal, and you can get written proof of it being within the law... Your laughing.
I'll need to carry this proof around with me however since most cops here don't really know what is and what is not legislation

Attention whores of the zone unite....
German style plates, italic style plates, incorrectly spaced plates - they're all illegal.
If you think you're above the law then you deserve everything you get. D1ckheads.

There is NO loophole and NO way round having any of the above mentioned , They will also nick you for having anything but the euro badge or gb on your reg plate .
Most of these were brought in about september last year !
I got away wil it for 18 months or so and the copper who nicked me knew he had me bang to rights when the law changed as he had stopped me on previous occasions and id got away with it , If you want a £30 fine everytime and a lot of grief go for it , I was tempted but just cant be arsed with the grief and them eventually putting the car on a Q plate
Illegal end of story , Id love to run with my german plates but wont until something in the law is changed WHICH WONT EVER HAPPEN
Giggety Giggety Goo!!!

^^^ Amen.
While I'm at it, why do people spend their pennies on Northern Irish plates? To hide the true age of their 15-25 year old car?
