put 17 inch wheels on my first merc using the original wheel bolts, after putting the wheels on went to reverse out the garage and the car wouldnt move, so like an arsehole instead of finding out what was wrong i just gave it more boot...the wheel bolts were too long for these wheels and were protruding into the handbrake mech's inside the discs! i got the car moving but it smashed the mechanisms on both sides to smitherines!!! for the rest of the time i owned the car it sounded f*ckin horrendous! CLONK TINKLE CLONK TINKLE!!! i laugh about that car regularly, it was a 190 2.5D showing 150,000 on the clock but i think it was actually to 1,150,000! whenever something went wrong with that car it would fix itself within a couple of weeks, just not be 'as good'!

Did the jack actually go into the sump spook?

If so check your oil pump is ok still when you change the sump.

At least its a time to change the gasket also, they always go in the end!

I put the jack on my mini through the sill.

I kinda crashed it into a wood one day and into a tree, pulled it out, everything was fine but a cracked headlamp. But the tyre had come off the rim. Only jack i had was the factory one which i hate using but i had to in that situation. Just as i was screwing up the third wheel nut the fecking jack went through the sill.lol Good thing it hadn't happend when the wheel was off.....what a bugger. oh well. its got new sills now.lol

my advice is to getsome one else to maintain it, if you dont know how to jack up it might end up costing more than it would to get a garage to do it.

sorry to hear that tho hope you get it fixed :D

Only last weekend got my head back form the shop so I started to put it
All back nice and new. Vales re cut port clean lovely.
Clean top of the block new gasket on, bolted up etc
Finished bleeding the water starts up on the button.
But there is a strange noise, so I have look can not see what it is
I guest it was the power steering belt as it was shagged.
So today I go to fit a new belt, open the top on my toolbox
And there is a nice new cam belt tensioner.
So that is funny noise toolbox shut, down the pub
LOL

My friend pulled over to change his wheel.

Unfortunately it was dark and didnt notice where he stopped to change his wheel was a large drain........................Half an hour later he had no option but to drive home with only 2 nuts on one wheel.............once something goes down those drains, there aint no way you'll get it back

I once put engine oil flush into the power steering reservior like a tit. I knew where the oil went but was being talked at by my dad who turned up to see what i was doing with an ambulance 4x4. Had to do an impromtu power steering fluid drain. Probably needed doing anyway as the ATF instead of being sort of a cherry red, was almost black, so it must have needed doing.

On that note, my first car was a nissan micra on a d plate that my mate gave me. We were unsure whether it would pass an MOT, and it failed, but on only one thing. The hole i had punctured in the sill where I jacked it in the wrong place in excitement at being given a car!!!!!

Failed to tighten the screw on top of the shock absorber after doing the top mount so after hearing the famialiar noise again I assumed there was too much rust in the arch and I have to change it. Until I looked under the arch...Shock absorber screw(telescope) hitting the arch while the top part is all well tightened up. Not as expensive as your mate but very dangerous.

it was a ford orion, so a silver lining to every dark cloud.

talking of car stereo, I once fitted an amp under the dash (in an Opel Kadett loooooong time ago) and suddely a thin stream of funny smelling clear liquid was pouring on the carpet.

Turned out that I had drilled into the car's battery when fitting the amp braket
