Re:

Thats built and long gone.

I've been flat out recently. Some of the fabricated bits i do for cossie engines have really taken off and i'm struggling just to keep up.

Keep thinking i might see you at one of bbbs barbeques but you never turn up. Is the E30 on the road still?

Re:

If it went lean (I don't know any figures your comparing it too) it means you have more air than fuel. If dangerously lean it will detonate under load so not good, ideally aim for 14.7 AFR to start off with, beware around peak torque as this is where changes to spark plugs become most evident! Don'...

Re: Gas Flowed Heads??

Doh, yes the 12v 6 pot iron block lump.

Surely that 2 valve head could do with some improvement?

Does anyone have some existing flow figures @ 10 or 28" H2o?

Re: Alloy wheel refurbishment in Essex? Anyone used BJV in h

Try Ross at RH Propaint. Give him a bell on 07787 556347. He is in north Essex right next to Big Bavarian Beauties (E30 Breakers) and has very competive rates for good quality wheel re-furbs.

You can run as lean as you like on cruise. With a nearly closed throttle there is not enough energy in the burn to do any damage.

That looks like an awesome car and must be great fun to drive now. Top work by Ant. Its just a shame that there is naff all room down the side of the M20 as i'm sure a decent tubular manifold might get that turbo spooling up a couple hundred rpm earlier and probably hang on to its power a bit longer...

Re: problem with decomp plate

Yes i see your point, but its only valid on cranking pressure. Static CR is not a measure of cranking pressures or cylinder pressure at any other point. It is a ratio of two physical volumes. How much you fill those volumes is what most people refer to as your dynamic CR. A thicker HG changes both ...

[Maybe he's still using standard head bolts which will not only stretch under boost but because of this fat plate between head and block won't engage fully in the block threads. He's using 12.9 grade non stretch bolts, like Dimmy, Erel, myself, Ant, Fowler etc Hass's are also 160mm long which means...

Show me an engine making reliably 40-50% more power with a decomp plate and a stock head gasket . Oh thats right you cant. Oh but I can! http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d90/Garage19/P1010027.jpg If you can make out the numbers it reads 298.5 bhp up from an original reading of 194 bhp. If my maths...

Re: problem with decomp plate

If you had a spare head we could put a bandsaw through it to check material thickness, get another chamber 3d scanned, put it into solidworks for me to change, and then re-shape on a CNC mill.

Re: problem with decomp plate

Decomp plates are just horrible - what a bodge up. An oversize gasket is the way to go. I'd be wary of taking meat out of the piston crown on a Turbo engine, better to take it out of the combustion chamber. Interesting comments but probably crap again! Can you explain the mechanical advantages of a...

The proper way to use a decomp plate is to chemically weld it to the block then sleeve the cylinders  You will never have a reliable car with a turbo attached the way you are going. I would suggest you get a custom multi layered metal head gasket to bring the dynamic compression down. Andrew ...
