Re: Engine mayo

I had a bad case of this on a 4.0L Jag. I started doing short journeys to work, and one winter I looked at the dip stick, and had a heart attack. I was getting ready to sell the car. Thick white mayo all over it, practically oozing out of the dip-stick tube. Turned out to be nothing, and went away w...

I have some PCB's being manufactured at the moment that would allow you to connect a "Raspberry Pi" to megasquirt. In case you dont know the Raspberry Pi is a £25 pc the size of a credit card. I did mine, but not in a conventional way. I welded/bolted in some metal to accommodate my battery tray and also act as the earthing point for the cable. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2044/2521083723_486ac1161e.jpg here is the battery tray in http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3220/2521087529_6ff3855597....

Re: replacing prop shaft flexi coupling

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I am confused. Does the prop/exhaust have to come off or not? The second post suggests just dropping the support bearing is enough. Dont mind spending an hour or so on my back, but if it's all day, a garage can do it.

M-Tech springs for my motorsport

I have an 1988 motorsport, and thinking about going back to standard M-Tech springs if not too pricey. I believe these are the correct part no.

Re:

Looks like one of my early DIY kits. Too late to test now, but a common mistake was to not drill the holes for the drivers cleanly. Stray bits of metal would break though the insulation and short the drivers. Running a large drill bit over the holes to coutersink them solves that problem.

You will know in an instant if you wired it right if you can get your laptop working. Maybe Ant is right, and it's a CPS problem. No spark without a working CPS. The laptop will help diagnose that too. Also, check to see if the fuel pump remains running when you crank the engine. if the fuel pump st...

I know you dont like computers, but in Megatune/Turning/Realtime Display it will show you what your accelerator peddle is doing.

When I had a bad M50 TPS, the problem only occurred when the engine warmed up, and was most noticeable when accelerating around roundabouts. I wont buy TPS's of ebay again.

Yep, sounds like a TPS. Get the one from RS Electronics. But before you do, log some data. Drive around with smooth movements to the accelerator. If it doesn't look smooth on the log, there is your answer.

Depends on how much power the fan takes. I'd say continuous given that it's a fan. If it were something electronic, like a radio then fused.

Re: Possible Symptoms Of Faulty Throttle Position Sensor

What engine? I had a bad TPS on a Megasquirt setup. Jerky & loss of power. It was imediatly obvious what was happening when I looked at the logs.

With a strandard M20, it will just cause idle issues.

If you do get one, the LED display is a bit of a gimmick in my opinion. Its very hard to read. If you want a gauge, hook up an analogue one.

If your going for a wideband sensor, consider JAW. Cost effective & works with MS ok.

It's worth a try in my experience. So long as you dont put too much in to cause a blockage, it does no harm. Even Jaguar used to recommend Radweld as a preventative measure whenever you changed the coolant!

Re: Ignition live

No. If your not getting power to the motronic plug then it's got to be a fault somwhere between that, and the ignition switch. An immobilizer may cut the ecu power.

Windscreen rubber seal

My windscreen was leaking. The rubber surround didn't look too good, and and it was missing the chrome trim surround, so I ordered another from BMW (51311972248 - part listed on RealOEM), which when it arrived looked the same. However, I struggled to fit it, and called in the pro's. They turned up a...

Re: Electric fan conversion - how much, what's involved?

Additional electrical load will not sap power- amperage is regulated by the alternator to a fixed value Don't think so. The more electricity you pull, the harder it becomes to turn the alternator. I can guarantee is LESS than a viscous fan (how many viscous fans do you see on moderns cars????) Prob...
