Re: 318 is - coolant leak
Isn't the stub pipe aluminium? I would have thought so... If it is the hose that connects between cylinders 2 and 3 that is leaking it is an easy fix by deleting the throttle heater. Apparently the hose runs from the back of the cylinder head. I'll make that suggestion when I see them. Given that a...

318 is - coolant leak
Hi, Would appreciate some advice! I took my 318 is to a BMW specialist to get the interior heater fixed (+ wheel bearing and few other things) Whilst checking the cooling system, they found a small coolant leak coming from "a hose at the back of the cylinder head". Apparently, a small amount of cool...

Re: Electrics - fuse 28
re: heater. I remember it working before the water pump was replaced. Could it be possible that the garage reconnected some pipes incorrectly? Not sure what is involved with a water pump replacement, and my Haynes manual doesn't cover M42 engines.

Re: Electrics - fuse 28
I think i've fixed it. I bought some new connecters for the horn and refitted it. Now I have a two tone horn that works as it should. I'm too embarrassed to say why it was sounding when the engine was started...let's just say...'dumb user error'! The central locking problem seems to have corrected i...

Re: Electrics - fuse 28
I checked the lighter socket and as you suggested, there was a tiny piece of metal foil stuck underneath. I removed it and was then able to fit a new fuse 28 without it blowing. I closed the doors and bonnet, pressed the alarm fob and the doors locked / alarm set. So far so good. I unlocked the car ...

Electrics - fuse 28
Hello. I've blown a 30amp fuse (no. 28 ) by plugging a small electric car fan heater into my cigarette lighter socket. When I try and replace the fuse with a new one, it sparks and blows as I push it into place (ignition is off). The radio stopped working when the fuse blew, but not sure why as the ...

Re: Water pump 318is
Thanks kevo...that's a relief! The way that the AA guy was talking, I thought I was in for a new engine. So £35 for a new water pump, about an hour to fit it (£60 at the local garage), don't bother changing the timing chain (although I don't know when it was last changed), new antifreeze, and an oil...

Water pump 318is
Hi, So I was driving slowly in traffic and my 318is started to make a 'pinking' sound under acceleration. Then the engine cut out it rolled to a stop. The temp gauge was high, and there was no water in the expansion bottle. I let it cool down, topped up the water and it came trickling out of the wat...

Found the hole, popped the bonnet, discovered that the release cable was loose due to a missing nut holding the release handle to the wall of the passenger footwell.

Will have a crack at it over the weekend.

Bonnet release - help!
Hi, Some muppet just reversed into the front of my car =( The kidney grill is pushed in and one edge of it has cracked, but that is the only visible damage. However, the bonnet was also pushed in a tiny bit....(you really can't tell), and the release cable is now loose, which means I can no longer o...

Re: Fuel tank leak - patch?
So, I had the tank checked out at the local garage. It's not leaking from the bottom, so they think it's either a small hole where the filler tube connects to the tank, or a corroded seam. The leak appears to have stopped for now, so I guess it's just a case of keeping the tank no more than half ful...

Hi Jim, Well it was dark & cold so I didn't get a chance to have a proper look. I had noticed that the petrol smell was stronger after filling the car, so have kept it 1/2 full for a while. The thing is, it was parked for a good 10 hours and a small puddle had formed underneath. The car was parked o...

Hi, Please can you help me? I have a 318is and have just spotted fuel dripping from the bottom of the fuel tank. I've just been down to Sytners, and asked about the BBS paint colour whilst I was there.
They said it was either 'nogaro silver', or 'silver', so not much help.
If you've sprayed your centre caps, what did you use, and where did you get it? What was the match like?

So, I've just been over my BBS alloys with Wonder Wheels, and they're looking pretty tidy now. I'm going to rub down the centre caps and spray them with some grey primer before painting them. Re: Testing the ICV????
I had a similar problem with my 318is on Sunday...the idle was too high (1500rpm), then too low (500rpm), then the engine started revving and dropping over and over again. I took off the ICV (one bolt & two hoses), cleaned out the inside with some engine cleaner spray & cotton buds, refitted it and ...

Hi, I was driving down the motorway yesterday in my 318is, (3 up, with luggage) at about 60mph. The car started to feel like it was struggling, as if driving into a headwind, then it felt OK. Then it struggled again. This kept happening for a minute or 2, so I changed down into 4th and accelerated t...

Well, i've just tried to fit the new pump, and have found that the actual pump part is too wide to fit through the opening in the top of the fuel tank.
So, does anyone here have a fuel pump that a) will fit a 318is, and b) they can sell me?
