As Gunni said above, just use the speed signal from the E30 instrument cluster and it will work fine. This signal is already running through the C101 connector on facelift cars. You must have the speed signal connected, or the ECU will introduce a secondary rev limiter at 7K RPM which effectively l...

Re: Which Hose?
If you can't use the tapping (because it isn't there), it will have to go in the top hose, but as near to the rad as possible. It needs to be activated by the temperature of the radiator water, not the engine water. Dont u mean the bottom hose coz thats when the water comes through the radiator and...

Re: Diff Swap but speedo not working
with my s50 swap, when the speedo is not working the consumption metre also does not work, it just moves from side to side continuously This happens on my E30 too since the speedo is used to work out fuel consumption. That fact it's moving from side to side probably means you're lifting off too muc...

Re: Diff Swap but speedo not working
Problem sorted.... the e36 sensor is actually shorter than the e30 one, Well, I was right that they're different lengths, even if I got it the wrong way around! Eco meter problem is caused by injector pulse width info not reaching it (or not being recognised.) any way of sorting the eco metre out?

Had the internals of the e36 m3 diff swapped into my e30 casing, only problem is the speedo does not work, keeping in mind that the fins that spin in the diff that pass through the sppedo sensor were also changed to the e36 ones, should i change the sensor to the e36 one as well or would the e30 one...

Re:
SAE30, I've updated my previous post to reflect your tyre size. The slightly smaller rolling circumference of your smaller radius tyres (due to the 40 profile) will bring your revs up slightly at a given road speed. The other way of looking at it is that your road speed will be lower at a given RPM...

With the ZF typeC 5-speed and the 3.15 diff and a set of 205/50/16 rear tyres, at 6500RPM your vehicle speed will be: 57 km/h in 1st gear, 96 km/h in 2nd gear, 143 km/h in 3rd gear, 192 km/h in 4th gear, and 238 km/h in 5th gear. okay so they inspected the internals of my diff, checking the ls, the guy told me that it had a bit of play? does this mean worn clutches? Play on what? Also, while they are at it, get them to check the operation of the LS unit at the centre of the diff. If it's an old, well used LSD, the chances are good that it will require a new set of clutch discs. In which case, make sure they know how to reassemble the LS properly, set up the shims, measure/a...

I'm afraid it's not really a DIY job, unless you know exactly how to set it up again. It's easy enough to physically swap the parts, but setting the pinion pre-load, and getting the correct gear mesh is best left to someone with the tools and knowledge to do it properly. Ian.
