Re:
Thanks everyone for input and advice. Turns out the symtoms were probably caused by having far to little coolant in the system. Flushed radiator, block and heater and refilled and could not reproduce the symptoms of gas wooshing out of the bleeder valve. Did compression test: with engine half warm a...

Ok. Not towable being an iX so can't get it to workshop without driving. Just popped rocker cover: no mayo but plenty of old black, hard stuff on inside of cover. Normal? "Carbon deposits" perhaps? Will try flushing and refilling with water to see how it behaves and if water goes brown again. What a...

Re: Compression leaking into the coolant. Cracked head? Gask
Thanks Willnz and miniblob for responding.
Have'nt had time to deal with the car, will update thread tomorrow arter doing some tests.
IF only the gasket is shot am I risking cracking the head if I drive to a workshop to get a leak-down test done?

Compression leaking into the coolant. Cracked head? Gasket?
M20B25. 325 iX. Car has probably been running with low coolant lever or "air pocket" lately. All help appreciated. Feel very stupid and sad about this. Love the iX and hate the fact I may have caused this because of neglect. Today: suddenly hot air ceases to come from the vents. I stop the car and t...

Sachs "sporting" suspension. Any good? Will it fit
Someone is selling these fairly close to where I live. Claimed to lower the car 30 mm. They are for 45 mm struts. Can't find much information about them, they are probably quite old (stamp saying jan 1992) but unused. I have a pre facelift 12.86 320i. These seem to be for post 9.87, face lifts. Is t...

Re: New to E30s - what to expect from a 1.8 316?
My family has had a 316 for over 10 years now. It had trouble with the original carburettor which was swapped out for a weber. It's a lovely car. And it has crisp, instant throttle response unlike our other E30's (320i and 325iX). It also features the big clock on the dash for measuring 0-60! Seriou...

In snowy conditions like winter over here (Sweden) the ix is fantastic, I've driven one for 7 years (my dad's). E30 with open diff is useless in comparison, I've only used mine one winter. Not much snow in the UK though.

Re: can I move my wheel bearings over to new struts?
I need to renew my entire suspension which might be as old as the car. When I was researching this last year it seemed that the good options were only available for 51mm struts (bilstien b8). Also it seemed like a clever upgrade so I found a pair of mintish 51mm struts. I've now decided for bilstien...

capri_rob: Thanks.
How long are wheel bearings expected to last? Is it silly to change them preventively? Thinking of staying with my original 45 mm struts to save the money I might have to spend on new bearings.

can I move my wheel bearings over to new struts?
Got a pair of 51mm struts. Currently have 45mm struts on the car. Can I move the wheel bearings over from the 45mm to the 51mm struts? I read somewhere they should always be replaced with new ones but there is nothing wrong with mine.

How do I clean the AFM?
As title says. What is the procedure of cleaning out the AFM? I can't figure out how to get inside it. Do I go through the filter box? I've just cleaned the TB and ICV ultrasonically in diesel . I drilled a hole in the TPS and nothing came out. I screwed it off and there was no oil in the centr...

Re: What injectors do I have and what's needed for refurbing
But I have plenty of time :) I noticed most of the fuel hoses in the engine bay look old and cracked (on the outside). Is it a good idea to replace these while I'm there as a precaution? I know I'm supposed to get the pressure out of the fuel system before working on it. Haynes describes how to do i...
