Re: Build a 1400cc M10?
Thanks Andy but if I put the M40 in I would move up into a very serious (read expensive)class!

Re: Build a 1400cc M10?
Thanks for the reply. You are almost certainly right - it would be easier to start elsewhere. Though there aren't many (any?) cars that are tough enough to take quite a lot of boost, are RWD and are light. A 2002 is about 900kg so not as light as some but is RWD and has a pretty tough engine / drive...

Re: Build a 1400cc M10?
Thanks, I ought to start with a 2002 block so that would be a bore of 89mm. I know nothing about sleeveing down an engine but reducing from 89mm to 80mm doesn't sound to hard.

Re: Build a 1400cc M10?
Well, yes. I did nearly mention the M12 but I need 1428cc or less. M12 is 1500. Otherwise I'd go and buy one this afternoon!

Build a 1400cc M10?
Hi, I'd like to build a 1428cc or less M10 for a hillclimb car. It will be fitted with forced induction which will then allow it to compete in the up to 2000cc class. I know there was a 1500cc variant (for the 1502), and of course I could sleve down a 1600 or have a custom crank made but I was wonde...

Re: Thinking of building a 320IS for hillclimbs / sprints
E30s are heavy at 1,100 + Kgs for their Class in Series Production, where you're looking at 240bhp +/ ton to be competitive in the up to 2.0 litre Class. Type R sounds more of a plan, and even the S2000 (another heavyweight) can be competitive given the right mods, but then it starts with 250bhp......

Re: Thinking of building a 320IS for hillclimbs / sprints
OK - I'll abandon that then. £4-5k plus the doner car, building costs etc. I could buy a Civic type R and tune it and probably end up with a faster car for less (and not have the hastle of "proving" that it was a production car, just that it was a production car in LHD etc... thanks for all the info...

Re: Thinking of building a 320IS for hillclimbs / sprints
Anything is possible given enough time/money! 320is is mechanicaly related to M3,smaller capacity to suit taxation in the markets it was sold in,expect the OEM homo's to give you a rough ride for even thinking of modifying one! Another engine that may be cheaper/easier/better to improve could be an...

Thinking of building a 320IS for hillclimbs / sprints
Hi,I currently hillclimb an MG Midget but I like to drive to the events and the MG is hard work so sometimes I take my Boxster but the boxster is a 3.2 and therefore in the top (over 3 litre class) and not really competetive with the 911s etc.) and anyway, I can't afford to crash it. So I was thinki...

Re: Where to buy a clean M3?
I'd seen that car on Piston heads. I understood it to be an original early M3 with an engine rebuilt to 215 spec, how you would tell is more difficult. Does look well cared for in the pictures. Julz: thanks for the kind offer re viewing. I'll have to make a decision 130 vs M3 first but I may well ta...

Where to buy a clean M3?
not fully decided yet but if I did... I've got the money but I don't want hastle / risk of buying one out of Autotrader. Where should I go? Alternatively does anyone offer a service of checking e30 M3s over? GF thinks all old cars are unreliable (and she has a lot of evidence from my past "classics"...

Re: ACS e36
The "advert" is an article from TBMW. And yes, if you read it you will see that the car did, apparently, compete in a road rally; the Tasmanian Targa Rally, Australia. In fact it won its class and finished 3rd overall. The car predates the E36 m3 (being from '91). But I don't know if it should be ca...

Anyone know if you can get parts for the engine - at 191k its going to need a rebuild at somepoint? Anyone know how it woul...

130i depreciation predictions
I'm trying to budget for my possible 130i.
I'm looking at 11k SEs and 13k M Sports. All with less than 30,ooo miles about 3 years old.
Question is how much would they be worth in 2 years' time (ie 5 years old) with an extra 14,00o miles?

My e30's going to be famous! (thanks and good bye for now)
Just sold my 325i to a journalist from Evo magazine. Its going to be in one of their long running challenges. They had to buy a convertable for less than £1000. Apparantly its up against a 1.6 MX5 and some other cars. Will be interesting to see the dyno results and quatermile times. Hope he keeps an...

Re: so...tell me about 130is
how well do Se's drive in comparison to m Sports? I've done a comparison and as far as I can see appart from the body kit its mostly interior trinkets (perforated leather M gear leaver gaiter etc). I can't see if suspension is different or not. They all seem to have leather seats anyway but I do pre...

That Z4s on Autotrader too - with even fewer miles (3ooo). its £7-8k cheaper than other models of similar spec / age / miles. Could be a bargain. Looks too good to be true to me.

Re: so...tell me about 130is
I can't afford a 135 or 123d (becuase they are too new) and 120ds just aren't fast enough for me. I only do 6000 miles per year, mostly cruising on A roads so economy not too much of a problem. Don't like diesel anyway. I know all the stuff about waves of torque but I like smooth revvy engines.

I'm really considering getting one. The ones I'm interested in are about 3 years old, 30k miles for about 13k. M agenda.
What did they come with? Are there any "must have" options. Anything to avoid? Main dealer or independant?
Cheers

E12 vs E28 vs 6 series
Am I right in thinking that E28s drive better than 6 series? I've only driven one E28 (my beloved old 528i) and one 635. I thought the 528 drove much better. Firmer, more accurate feel, easier to control tail. The 635 could have been knackered. I've never driven an E12 but I fancy one. How do they a...

As above really. Is a cab 325i
It maybe something they all had. For example "convertable hood" is also listed.

After less than 90 miles the (genuine BMW E46 convertable) top mount on one side has failed. The damper is free to wobble around and does a very good job of bashing against the mount on bumps. Haven't had chance to investigate but I can only think of 2 causes 1) top mount was duff from the factory 2...

rattle driving me mad. Changed top mounts. Didn't fix it
I have a "tinckle" from somewhere around the rear suspension, drivers side. I've changed the knackered top mounts and wiggled every thing in the area but can't find anything loose. It sounds a bit like a heat sheild is loose or a wheelnut has come off and is bouncing around inside the centre cap. He...
