Re: E34 M5... worth it or waste of time
Awesome cars but only buy it if you can afford running costs that equal those of Scottish castle. Parts prices exemplify the phrase "M Tax". I'm not an expert but looking at these over the last few years leads me to believe you need to spend at least £5k to get one worth having / saving and then pot...

Excellent update Jai - nearly there now mate
BTW what did Iain use for pipe diameter? 2.25 or 2.5? I think he matched whatever the E36 has. No idea if it will make a huge difference without a cat?

Si - no arguments a touring is useful as I've had one (E36). This one's a bit nice for daily lugging unless money is no object - and how many on here can say that's the case?

thing is an E36 has a slightly smaller load space than an E30 tourer, the tail lights still get in the way loading big boxes if thats your thing and the rear seats don't fold flat either. Well, it's pretty common knowledge that you can fit precisely 2 tenths of toss all into most 3 series variants,...

Re:
Nice car. Price is not bargain basement but as said above, it's all too easy to plough four-figure sums into these cars trying to revive their showroom lustre. If you really have to have a minty E30 touring you'd probably swallow 4k+ for the purchase. Personally, much as I love E30s, an E36 would be...

A few inconsiderate egotists spoil it for the rest of us. Re: Anyone driven a 135i coupe?
I got to try one a few months back - was fun. When they get down to the 10-15k mark, they will be bargainous. However, I wouldn't let myself hang around the dealership too long as with BMWs new performance parts catalogue you can easily spec one of these up past £40k 8O Been reading up on Brian Laba...

Re: The AA are useless
I've been lucky I guess. Called the AA 4 times, each time they were were there in 20 min or less and very helpful, recovering the car to the garage of my choice. That said, the quality of the individual did vary somewhat - a couple were clearly clued up petrol heads, one was fairly ambivalent and an...

Love your touring. 325i E30 T is imo one of the few ideal "only" car scenarios (i.e. birsk / practical / fun to drive enough that you're never in the "wrong" car)

Raw Hotness (TM). Seriously, I'd rather be seen in one of these than an E60 M5 - much, much cooler. If a bit on the slow side by comparison. I'm sure it feels (and likely *is*) fast enough

Re: M30 3.5 vs M50 2.8
I in no way meant to demean the M30 - if you can find one they are the good bang per buck, relatively easy to fit and sound gorgeous. I have fond memories of passengering a 535i some years back - was rapid and sonorous as a bimmer should be. loads of nice engine options for E30s!

Re: M30 3.5 vs M50 2.8
M50B25 or M52B28 has to be the optimum donk swap for an E30, weighing costs (obtaining, fitting and running) against performance gains unless you're any of the following: - a traditionalist (stroked / boosted M20 - very tasty) - a power-crazed boost junky (as above but including your choice of FI ap...

Jai - I think either way is good. Either "sleeper stock+" or full house sport ++. All I would say is that if you go for the sport look, you have to go the whole hog and fit some council rear lights and rusty rear arches / filler neck / battery tray :teehee: I think I have maybe a 1% preference for t...
