M52B28 double vanos wiring

wow been a while since been on here!

I have a M52 double Vanos 2.8 lump from a Z3 that I am gonna put in my E30.

a few questions:

1. not sure which ECU I have so need to check, but does the wiring loom (says for an E36) as shown in the wiki work for the single AND double Vanos engines?

if the paint on the bolts was good to start with then they can be polished in a tumbling polisher using wallnut shells or similar, however if the finish on the bolts is damaged then they will need to be re-finished after polishing or they will rust within days. For a home polish throw them in a jar ...

you need 81/82 mm. the reason on ebay the rear is different is becasue the rear badge is angled if you buy a proper one, however the 82mm bonnet badge fits perfectly well in the rear, it just sits flatter - you cant tell from more than a few feet away. cabs/baur/tin tips all have exactly the same ba...

OK if in the states then 100% the cogs, easy to change but you need to get the correct ones (Miles or KM) but to be honest its just as easy to swap for a known good speedo. but look on US Ebay and they sell the cog sets for about 50 USD. onyl difference between tin top 2 door and cabs is under the rtear seat, the cabs have a cross member under the rear seat thast is thicker on a cab for added strength - thus the carpet is slightly differently shaped.

Re: Upgrade radiator

My logic behind fitting a bigger rad wasn't so much for extra cooling but so I had more water to loose should I spring a leak if it has a leak then it does not pressure properly, water under pressure has a different (higher) boiling point, so a system with a leak will not hold pressure and thus the...

Re: mega weird idle rises up if car rolls forward ???

cracks in the inlet pipes, or poor seal in the inlet manifold.

spray some carb cleaner around the inlet side of the engine while it runs, a change in engine speed as you spray is a good indication of an air leak.

did you pre load the bearing? if not then try this first, with the bearing housing in a finger tight position, slide the bearing housing about 5mm toward the gearbox and tighten in this position. Also WD40 is not really a lubruicant as such, in fact it acts as a degeasing agent, so spraying WD40 on ...

yes remove it, and also the rear one. this will save you much weight. also wing mirrors are not really needed.

you will fail an MOT and no doubt attract lots of police attention, but who cares when you have no bumpers and have such a fast car.

ALL E30's have the same lock (its not the backup, this is the actual lock) but its not a prod, you need a LARGE flat screwdriver, and you insert it onto the hole in the catch and turn it - you may need some dolphin grips on the screwdriver to help turn it if its very stiff. it may also help to have ...

belts even have a shelf life when they are on the shelf. The ones I buy here in the middle East have a due date on the box, thus as Brian says the rubber has a finite life, less if stored incorrectly..or worse if stretched on the car...it could be feasible that the belt could last for another thirty...

no running in lsowly applies to 1950's buitl engines, just dont drive it at any one RPM for too long, ie accelrate quite hard then back off, vary speed at motorway or vary the gear (4/5th). after about 100-200 miles drop the oil out, have a good look for big bits of metal ...assuing all good change ...
