Re: Rust: How to tackle it, and at what cost?
I am about to try a product which sounds good, Epoxy Mastic 121 from Rustbuster, a 2 part epoxy paint. Aparently the bond is so high between the paint and the metal that if it is stone chipped it will rust at that point but the rust cannot creep under the edges of the paint. There are a few other p...

Re: BEST M42 EXHAUST MANIFOLD???
iirc 4-2-1 produces more midrange torque at the expense of top end power. 4-1 (bottom manifold) produces better top end but not as much mid range. The e36 M42 Manifold doesn't fit the e30 at all so I doubt the M44 one will fit easily. If you are welding your manifold be aware they are stainless and ...

Yup, works fine. If you are using lambda then you need to disconnect pin 3 (there is a connection on the bulkhead wiring for this). Confuses the hell out of the engine if you have it connected with lambda.

slower than a M42/M44 swap at a guess
unless you have a reason for using the M43, swapping the M42/M44 is a better option for the same amount of work (excluding the exhaust manifold issue)

I had a look at this for winter rimz, 195/65/15 are half the price of every other size but they are a bit large for the e30. Re: BILT HAMBER VS FERTAN...
I'd imagine Fertan is the same as Vactan, tannic acid combined with an organic polymer, the rust is passivated to a metal-organic compound. Pretty good if you clear off the loose rust 1st.
I use Vactan overcoated with Jotamastic, pretty much what they do on ships/rigs. Seems to work ok

Vapour is the problem not heat. Take the bloody tank out, not worth the risk. And then you can inspect all the other rusty bits behind the tank as a bonus.

I know it will fit, that's about it, the M40/M42 from the e30/e36 all share the same block.
Why not just fit the whole engine and ECU? Head change means new gaskets and headbolts. Loom change has got to be easier?

if you want a good workout, use a spring compressor.
If not, follow the Bentley instructions.
Rear springs are very tough to compress, there is also very little room to get them in or out with the spring in place.

You'll need brackets made up or you'll need to change the mounting holes in the floor pan. They are a tight fit too.
I went bracket method but on hindsight moving the mounting holes would have been better.

Almera's arses
Not that anyone should admit to owning one (i don't, it's my mothers) but a word of warning: You have a 10 year corrosion warranty, this lasts just long enough to allow the underseal to hold the rear of the car together until it's 11. Then it all falls apart. If you do know anyone, get them to check...
