Tricky one...automatic E30 320i to manual M50 with E36 5MT
Hi all, What's the score with this swap? Base car is an 89 320i automatic. The engine donor is going to be a E34 525i automatic. The gearbox that I already have is a Getrag 220 from an E36 318is. Clutch, flywheel, starter not a problem. Have lots of spare parts at work. So...wiring seems straight fo...

Converting an auto to manual
Hi guys, Might have found a really nice 325, but its auto. I realise I will need flywheel, clutch, gearbox, pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinder. But do I also need a prop? Would it just be the front half, or would need a complete prop? Also is the starter motor different? Anyone done the swap bef...

How to remove wires from plug when doing M50 swap
What's the best way to get the pins out? Do most people cut the wires further down the line, or just pull the pins and put them into a different location?

Cool thanks for that. I guess I need to start using the E30zone wiki more often! In that case I'll get it painted tomorrow and fit it properly.

4-door and 2-door front valance is different?
Just got a really nice valance from local scrappy this morning off a saloon. Came with splitter, fog lights and brake ducts and cost 20 quid. So was a bargain. However trying to fit it today it seems different. Anyone know?

Re: The 10/11 degree angle problem

Ok, so I found these in the US. These guys use this mount with the normal M20 rubbers and don't seem to have any issues with linkage etc.
Guess the easiest solution is just to copy these.

The 10/11 degree angle problem
Hi all, So i'm thinking about this angle thing. Am I missing the point here, or what? Why don't people just space out the rubber on one side, and cut it down on one side so make it level for the gearbox mount? Is there a reason people don't do this? I'm thinking of getting some ally and machining th...

Tricky choices...
Buy a ZF and a prop, or just cut and weld the existing mount and make up a linkage...

Yep. Sold the M20 without flywheel and starter.
Well that's a fooker. How much is a box going to cost then. Might just make up a mount instead though. Got to be cheaper. I think its only the angle thats a problem so could get away with chopping and welding the gearbox support i guess

Help identify my diff and gearbox please (PICS)
Hi all, I'm doing the M50 swap over next week and just want to be sure that my gearbox is going to fit onto the engine with my M20 flywheel etc. All I need to know really is what box is on my car, and if my diff is a proper medium case. It's supposed to be an LSD, but i've only driven it on and off ...

Yeah, I contacted the guy. He is willing to sell things individually too which is nice.
But now I'm half considering just sticking on some bolt on over fenders instead. I'm going to be running 9J +15 wheels on the back, so deffo need some sort of over fender. Decisions decisions

Re: Converting front suspension to E36
Thanks for the info Grrr....
Main reasons are:
1) Coilovers available on the shelf. Don't need to cut my struts and use inserts with weld on spring platford
2) Easy to get a lot of steering angle from E36 spindles for drifting
3) I have a large selection of E39 wheels that I would like to use

Re: Converting front suspension to E36
Yeah, that's kinda the whole point. Not doing it for the suspension. Doing it to fit some wide 5-stud wheels I have.
I don't see why you need M3 Evo spindles. Sounds like an expensive way to do it. What's the difference between 325/328 E36 or M3 Evo?

Hi guys, Have found a cheap, crashed 328 E36 and am thinking of having the engine for my E30. The car doesnt have keys, so no chip etc. for the EWS. Running the M50 ECU on it's own. Just a on/off relay
Is this do-able? I'm going to swap an M50 into my E30 316i and don't want to wire it into the clocks, diagnostics etc. as it's just a track car and I'm fussy about my wiring. Have already stripped out all wiring from the car and made my own body loom (lights, brakes, flasher etc.) So can I just have...
