Re:

Drifty: you won't see decent power without TBs or carbs; by all means keep your inlet manifold - get a sheet of glass and use it as a coffee table!

Re:

Hoobs - wings, doors, glass, rear seats & trim have to remain; front seats, battery, bonnet & boot lid can all be replaced/ lightened. Underseal can be removed too - lovely job! Obviously the spare wheel isn't carried, nor a full tank....

Re:

Yes - the Series Production Class A3 regs. dictate any capacity 1800cc > 2600cc; same block & head as production cars, internals incl. valve sizes are free as is normally aspirated induction. So - head work, high comp. pistons, cam & carbs/ TBs are all there to be made the most of, plus remap. IMHO ...

Re:

AVO adjustables should be OK for your chosen motorsport disciplines with the bonus of adjustability. If stage rallying then you'd choose Bilsteins without question. Only the thoughts of a rank amateur though - you should await the input of the pros. P & B

Dr. Ben, after your performance in yesterday's AutoSolo and previous performances at sprints this season I'd say the driver has talent (from a mere spectator/ observer's viewpoint) and the car has balance. Stiffer/ lower springs, Bilstein inserts up front and adjustables out the back, polybushes, ad...

Re: Thinking of building a 320IS for hillclimbs / sprints

E30s are heavy at 1,100 + Kgs for their Class in Series Production, where you're looking at 240bhp +/ ton to be competitive in the up to 2.0 litre Class. Type R sounds more of a plan, and even the S2000 (another heavyweight) can be competitive given the right mods, but then it starts with 250bhp....

Re:

No contest - Sports 'box much nicer. 1st, 2nd & 3rd all bunched more closely: 19%, 16% & 10% closer respectively. 2nd is some 8% higher than std. box. A much overlooked tuning item IMO. Particularly worth having if running a hotter cam than std.

Re: Le Mans..... Any one go?

George - might have been us in the laser blue Touring: we briefly discussed the costs of Alpina wheels while waiting at a Paege. APA was looking good both in the mirrors and from behind. Spent the week in Tertre Rouge, only e30 in that campsite I think. Always a cracking craic........P & B

Re: M3 into Tourer...?

Thanks guys, I'll have a good gander in the New Year, and good suggestion Geeman re. utilising the suspension. It may be a case of leave the Tourer as is and source a 2 door E30 shell, or even a damaged repairable M3 shell from somewhere like FAB. Season's Greetings all!

Fuzzy & Nickso: its an E30 M3 - and no, I hadn't considered the exhaust manifold difficulties. Maybe visit a fabricator, someone like Tony Law?

M3 into Tourer...?

Just been offered a wrecked M3; easy peasy to install engine, loom, g/box & diff unit into 325 Tourer? Christmas may have come a couple of days early...... This is just for road use (a 230 bhp Lotus Sunbeam does track day duties) so don't want to embark on a 'mission': the present 325 runs a big bor...

I had Birds do their H23 conversion to a 323i with dog leg back in '86 - they made it nice enough to keep for 5 years. As JonB says - these come with the 3.25:1 rear diff. You'll enjoy it ROCKINRON, keep it on cam and it'll outrun a 325i on acceleration, but the 325i will just outgun it on top speed...

Widge - I think you may find that 1st on the 320i 'box is 3.72, and 1st on the std. 325i 'box is 3.83 The M3 ratios are 3.72, 2.4, 1.77, 1.26 & 1.00 and is preferable for the circuit as 1st is back and down on the dog leg, meaning 4th & 5th are on the same plane.... The 325i Sport box is closest of ...
