Re: Scrapping a car with no wheels/suspension.

I can't believe the local frag yard won't take a car with no wheels on, they have to take the damn things off when they crush them up anyway. My old man weighed about 8 cars in a few months back and had to take wheels off each of them before the hiab got hold of them. I would call another breaker's...

Normal car trailer with a solid floor, lift it on job done! (Did it last week..) Actually...this could be an option too. How much does a 2-door shell weigh? Not replacing it with another E30...actually I'm not replacing it all. I've started a new job 2 miles away (as opposed to 20) so the Mrs and I don't really need 2 cars and a motorbike. Gonna be a 1 car 1 bike family. Although, if anyone were interested, I could cut it up for repair panels for zoners?

Scrapping a car with no wheels/suspension.

Hi, I did have my iS advertised for sale. However, after further investigation I think the rust is actually quite bad and I can't really sell the car. I think I'm gonna break it of all tasty/good condition bits then scrap it. None of my local yards seem to be able to collect cars with no wheels thou...

Re: Half rant half Q: Are E30's unreliable or is it just mi

People are saying 'buy the best one you can' etc... My car wasn't exactly cheap and the previous owner got it featured in Total BMW magazine. It's only ever received genuine BMW parts (unless they're uprated). The things that have gone wrong have been things I've not touched. Maybe i'm just unlucky.

I think you're right...

However, it's whether or not you have the time/space/skills/money/patience to go through an do everything that's the issue. If the E30 were my second car I wouldn't worry about it, but having it as an only form of transport is another matter.

Re: Half rant half Q: Are E30's unreliable or is it just mi

I think part of the problem might be that as I was growing up my parents always had brand new cars...my first car was a 2001 Ford Focus too. Hi, Just been dropped off from the garage. I got dropped off 'cause my car decided it didn't want to take me home. I only took it in there to get the tracking re-checked (free check 2 weeks after it's set). The guy started it up to drive it off the lift and there's a suprisingly loud 'BOOM!'...part ...

Is part of the electric window system near the glovebox?

Hi, My electric windows have half broken. Somtimes when you push the button (both sides) they don't move, but there's a high pitched electrical sounding whine/buzz that seems to be coming from in/around the glovebox somewhere. The switches all seem to be connected fine and the windows moved nice a q...

Yeah I thought that would be the case.

I just thought there was also a relatively simple fix for a slightly dodgy AFM, something to do with poor/dirty contacts inside.

KK.

I heard something about adjusting/fiddling the AFM. Apparently there's an electrical contact the wears and you can adjust the track?

Is that true?

Should probably take it to get set-up with EGA etc really. Could probably do it at work actually. Is there a simple mixture adjustment?

The steering wheel has been off the column yes...

I could get it tracked at somewhere with a rolling road to make sure it's dead centred??? Does anyone offer that service, I know that's how they do it when they build the cars, but do garages do it?

Tried swapping the blue temp sensor from the new engine with the old one (dunno if either work TBH!). The new ICV is deffo better than the old one (the new one came from a third engine). The speed is right, it just idles really roughly and sometimes stalls as you pull off. All the 'engine mounted' s...

No one in his right mind would want that in a road car. As for the price, it's a bargain for a properly built engine of this spec. Do you know how much an F3 engine costs? (multiply by ten...) I have a similar problem on me iS... It used to hunt at idle, so I replaced the ICV. Not it holds 750rpm but 'chugs' at idle and sometimes dies at random when stationary like ProToZyKo describes. It used to be chipped but I've switched it back to the standard ECU. It only started doing this when I c...

It's on Powerflex purple bushes... Do they have a mark like the OE M3 ones to show you they're in the right place? TBH I didn't look, I just assumed they wouldn't move in the lollipops simply because it'd be much easier for the wishbone to move in teh bush than for the bush to move in it's housing. ...

Front wheel scrubbing on one side after wishbone renewall.

Hi, I recently changed the nearside front wishbone on my iS. I changed it to get the car through an MOT (balljoints), so I didn't have time to change both. The car has eccentric powerflex bushes that are about 3 years old, so I left the same bush on there. Once I'd changed the wishbone, the tracking...

To be fair, the tank needed doing anyway...it collapsed on a forecourt and dumped 40 litres of petrol. I wasn't very popular with BP that day!

It's good practice to replace the filter, so that doesn't really count either.

I used to have a fuel leak on my iS...not enough to cause noticable level drops, just a smell.
