Oil and residue on top of throttle body
Hi guys - quick one - got a long drive this weekend so was doing a little inspection of the car. I noticed a small amount of oil and crusty residue on top of the throttle body, at the join near where the breather hose connects. Never seen this before which is why it stood out to me... there's a pic ...

Haven't posted anything on here for a while - not because I've fallen out of love with the car, far from it, just been out there using it. Not much work done other than some small bits and pieces - o2, coolant and washer level sensors replaced plus a full oil and filter service :D Was at the Oh So R...

Re: Vibration/Noise after propshaft centre bearing replacement...
Thanks for the responses... just spoke to my local indie and he also said it sounds like they may have installed the CSB the wrong way around?! Which would be annoying to say the at least. Will get it into the garage and have a look, hopefully not too tricky to resolve...

Vibration/Noise after propshaft centre bearing replacement...
Hi guys - question for everyone - I have just had a new fuel tank put into my '88 320i (old one had a crack) and while down there the garage replaced my propshaft centre bearing as the old one was shot! Good news is this cured an annoying heavy clunk I was getting when accelerating or decelerating.....

Re: Replacement 63l Fuel Tank Help
Bought one from GSF couple of years ago (I see they don't do them now) and I can't really tell the difference from the original, it is decent steel and about the same weight (they both had a dent in so a good match there too!) Problem is there is a lot of tin-foil panels out there and I would guess...

Replacement 63l Fuel Tank Help
Hi everyone, When having a custom stainless exhaust fitted last week it was discovered that my fuel tank had a leak! Looks like it was rotting from the inside... apparently this is quite common for Japanese imports. It makes sense... sitting unused for a long time, condensation builds in the tank et...

Re: Bad tapping noise, could this be a fuel injector?
VERY late response but did you ever find a solution to this? I had exactly the same noise coming from my engine after I took the injectors out to refurb them... I'm pretty sure it was due to a small amount of debris being stuck in the injector port. Anyway, if you haven't fixed it already, I'd start...

It's been exactly a year since I owned this car - so thought it would be interesting to list every job I've done on it so far. I like keeping a record of each job and could be useful for anyone out there considering buying an E30 and wondering what the workload might be like! I should point out that...

Re: New shocks... old springs???
I really like the ride height of the car as it is. It looks somewhere between stock and lowered which I assume is because the springs have sagged over the years, so I don't want to put in new oem spec springs and suddenly raise the rear of the car! If the springs are good then it will not be a prob...

New shocks... old springs???
Hi guys... one of my rear shocks has a slight leak so I'm going to be replacing both rear shocks over the next month or so. While I'm in there I'll be doing the shock mounts and mounting hardware etc as well. However, I think I'm going to stick with the springs that are currently in there... as long...

Has been a while since I posted an update! Don't worry, still love the E30, just life has got in the way of doing much work on it... Thankfully things have calmed down a bit now so I decided to finally try and fix the clunking noise from the rear - it always seemed to be worst when the car was cold ...

Not sure if you got this sorted already or not... however I picked up a new Bosch pump from www.schmiedmann.com
It will be sent from Germany so you have to pay relatively high shipping costs now, however it arrived v qucikly with no problems and is working a treat in my car

First of all - just to clarify - I have already searched for this problem as know it has come up a lot on the zone already. So I've done my research. Re: Damp area around fuel pump - advice
+1 for checking the breather...often perished underneath against the tank...just where you can't see it. If its split...cut a bit off and re attach...only if the rest of the tube feels ok, replacing this pipe can be a right pig to get it out of the feed through which is filled with putty...30 years...

Re: Damp area around fuel pump - advice
Are you sure the whining isn't just normal operating noise? If I were you I'd buy a replacement pump and keep it handy for when/if the current pump dies. You may as well replace the rubber seal as a preventative measure, they probably don't cost much and it's an easy job. Yeah it could be normal op...

Damp area around fuel pump - advice
So I was taking a look at my fuel pump the other day as I noticed it was starting to whine a bit - when I removed the inspection cover I noticed what looked like a bit of a damp patch around it. See image below. To me it looks like the fuel pump o ring may have perished, however would fuel actually ...

Re: How much oil in throttle body and on TPS is acceptable?
Just to check, have you removed the breather pipe from the rocker cover to the throttle body? If it's not been cleaned out for years it'll be full of crud which gets into the TB. These pipes also split on the underside where they meet the rocker cover due to the jubilee clip/vibration and often goe...

Bit late to the party on this but anyway... was getting around 25mpg in my '88 320i auto with Motronic 1.3 and a mild chip... however recently refurbed my injectors and replaced the fuel filter and got 29mpg on a 200 mile run this weekend so I'm happy with that! How much oil in throttle body and on TPS is acceptable?
I was doing a bit of work on the car yesterday to solve my hard cold start issue and lumpy idle. This involved checking for vacuum leaks, removing and cleaning the ICV, removing the Rubber Boot and then cleaning the TPS and C191 connector with contact cleaner. I was surprised to see some oil in the ...
