Re: What's it worth?

Thanks for your response and kind words. I've decided to just leave things as they are for now. I'm apathetic about things and the car is in the garage taking no harm . Probably have another assessment of things in spring. Cheers Jed

What's it worth?

Hi . I have not been able to get to work on my 85 323i coupe. Since losing my dad I have had a bit of low mood. I am in two minds to sell it as a project. It's got 121k on. Engine strong. Interior swapped out for an immaculate one from an SE with matching door cards front and back but the original i...

Re: Anthrazit e30 sport seat

I have an anthracite coupe interior but drivers seat needs work. There is some cloth spare but you would need more to repair it. Not sports seats though. Passenger seat OK. Door cards OK. Back seat mint. In two minds to keep it but might let it go. Cheers

Mmm interesting for me too as mine had a high idle. Don't suppose you have a diagram of the item you are referring too?

Re: 1985 325e Idle control valve

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Spray carb cleaner all around and see if you can get it to run faster. That will help identify where it is. Also just check the throttle cable is allowing the butterfly to almost close. Best of luck. JED

Keep us updated mate. Looks a great project. Not touched my 323i for a while due to family and work commitments but feel a bit inspired now.

Re: 318i stalls after startup and won't hold revs (M40)

If someone can keep it running spray around the engine with carb cleaner. Then if it revs up you have isolated an air leak. Also clean inside the MAF.

Pop the old plugs and leads back in just to eliminate. If it wasn't there before then something isn't right. Is it timed up perfectly?

Re: Sticking distributor and timing.

Yes make sure it's all lined up. If it runs OK just make tiny adjustments to the timing till it runs most happily, you can use a timing light but I prefer to just listen to it.

Re: Sticking distributor and timing.

Hi made up you got that out. You need to get piston 1 on tdc on the compression stroke and if you take the cap off you can see a little line in the metal distributor base. The rotor arm needs to point at this mark. Hope that helps.

Re: Sticking distributor and timing.

Have you changed the cambelt recently? It's easy to lose tdc when doing the cambelt as the dizzy drive crank can move. Don't ask me how I know this 😁

Sorry I don't have the depth of knowledge to specifically describe which one it might be but the intermittent fault you had before suggests a relay might have been sticking and has now given up.

Cassette holder space

My handbrake console has holes drilled in it so I got a used one off ebay. I have been a bit preoccupied and didn't notice the tape holder space in the new console. When it arrived I was a bit annoyed with myself. Anyone got any links to a plastic recess that's a good fit? Or a good cassette holder?...

I think there is a plug in chip that codes the cluster to the engine. A little white plug at the front. Wait till someone with more knowledge replies before buying one for a 325 in case I am wrong 🤔

Re: 86 323i

Did my first ever cambelt change. It was a good learning experience for me. I had real trouble with that flywheel damper but got it off in end. I lined up the timing marks on the damper and cam casing and the cam pulley with the markings. Mine is an early car so have to remove the distributor cap to...
