In the past, I have discounted the sticky lifters idea, because the noise is different than other cars I have heard with a lifter problem.
The clattering that I have heard doesn't sound the same as lifters because it does not appear to increase and decrease in frequency when I make RPM changes.

M40 Top End Engine Noises
I have owned 3 M40 powered E30 BMW's. All of them had minor noises coming from the top of the engine. I would describe these noises as a "clattering". Unfortunately, I know that my American English may not translate very well to British English and this clattering could be called something else. My ...

Yes, the valves need adjustment. If you're lucky, that will fix your idle.
Is the exhaust smoky? I couldn't tell from the video if it was just water vapor or something more of a problem.

"When refitting the cam pulley, leave the centre bolt finger tight until the belt is on. Fit the cam locking tool (it's a steel plate that locks the cam at TDC), fit the new cambelt, tension it and then tighten the centre bolt. This is because the cam pulley has a few degrees of movement, essential ...

M40 Cam Pulley on Cam problem?
Sorry about the repost, but I need some help on this: I recently had the head rebuilt on my 1993 M40 Touring. (new cam, lifters, rocker arms, valve guides , etc.) When I got the cylinder head back, the the cam was separate from the tooth belt gear wheel. ( the one that the belt rides on to turn the ...

Re: brake bleeding problems.
Did you bench bleed the master cylinder before you put it on the car?
If you haven't done that, you will never get all of the air out of the system.

There are plenty of youtube videos that show you how to change the odometer on an E30. Not sure about the legality of if, but it looks pretty easy to do

Before you pull out the transmission, have a friend move the shift lever while you watch from underneath the car. It is possible (and maybe likely?) that some part of the shift lever is disconnected.

This will not hurt the car. These cars are pretty stout and won't be bothered by any uneven block

Sometimes the tach doesn't work because the SI board batteries are dead. Check them with a voltmeter.

I agree with the poster above that says you don't have to get it ALL off. I used sandpaper to remove the big lumpy stuff and didn't touch the paint.
The new insulation stuck on just fine.

Most of the system is mostly invisible. It has a slightly bigger power steering pump and lines going from it to the shocks. The only real visible components are the accumulators under the spare tire. I'll try to get a picture of them.

Touring Load Leveling Suspension
I just recently purchased a 320i Touring and imported it to the US. After getting it here, I discovered that it has a load leveling suspension. In addition, the springs have been swapped to some much shorter springs. The ride height is probably 60-70 mm (2-3 inches) shorter. Here are my questions. 1...

Make sure you use a clutch. Some ev's conversions don't have them and it takes forever to shift gears. It takes too long to line up the engine rpm.

I wonder if the fan that blows air out the vents is drawing too much current.
Instead of running the A/C, can you run the vent fan with the heater on? If you do, do you still blow fuses?
