318iS Gearbox

Is the output shaft on a M42 gearbox a couple of inches shorter than that on a M40 gearbox? 99% sure it is but just wanted to check.

When you turn the engine over and it does not start can you take a spark plug out and see if it is wet with fuel? If they are bone dry like mine were then you will know you have a fueling problem (or not).

Many thanks again for your VERY kind comments.

Gromit: The interior is full leather - It is a Motorsport bubble leather interior, the centre parts on the seats are leather weave. It sounds a bit strange but hard to appreciate until you have seen one.

Selling My Beloved Convertible

I may be forced into parting with my cab as I have just bought a new project and my garage is full. Does anybody have any idea what this may be worth. I've sunk in Ԛ£12k up to now ..... obviously I know I won't get all of that back. See: http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=vie...

It's taken me about 3 months coz I've been at work most weekends.

You should be able to get it done in a weekend if you work at it full time and arnt waiting around for parts from the dealers.

Saying that I've got some sort of electrical problem I just can't seem to resolve.

Cheers

Pretty straightforward job but definitely easier if you have the donor car. Mine is now all swapped over, just canÔš't get the bugger started. You will need to swap: Engine Gear Box Engine Mounts Prop Shaft Engine wiring loom and ECU Exhaust Manifold and System Coil Pack and Coil Pack Brackets Air...

Yep Andrew, got the iS ECU and engine wiring harness from a 318iS which I am using for spares. I might take the engine harness back out and check all the connections. I'll need to find out what the pins are for that connect it to the main wiring harness.

Hi Jon, Yep I remember you, good to hear from you m8. Been out to test the pump like you said. When I bridge the terminals on the relay there is nothing from the fuel pump and when I run a positive directly to the fuel pump I can hear the pump running ok. I was hoping the coil packs were ok coz each...

318iS Starting Problems after Engine Conversion

Just finished converting my engine from M40 to M42 but the bugger wonÔš't start. All cylinders are firing ok but I canÔš't hear the fuel pump priming when the ignition is turned on. However if I loosen the petrol pipe where it goes into the fuel injection block there appears to be pressure. I ha...

318iS - What are these?

Couple of things I was wondering about while doing my iS engine conversion: Can anyone tell me what the 3rd relay is used for, it was missing on my iS wiring loom and I wondered if I will need it. Also I have one plug remaining on the engine loom - anyone know what it's used for. http://www.harleyfa...

M40 to M42 Conversion - Fuel Issue

IÔš'm after some help again with my M40 to M42 engine conversion. This time it is to do with fuel. My car is a 1991, which had a M40 318i engine originally. There are 3 fuel pipes entering the engine bay Ԛ—a a flow and a return and the third which goes in to some cylindrical thingy which I...

M40 to M42 Engine Conversion

The gearbox must definitely be different on the 318i M40 engine compared to the 318iS M42 motor. The output shaft is a couple of inches longer.

Does this mean I need to change the propshaft too? Anyone know if there is a difference? How easy is the propshaft to remove?
