Finally, the crappy chinese-made Magneti Marelli thermostat was replaced with an OEM Wahler and the temperature needle is dead center again.

Thanks a lot @Brianmoooore

Re: running temperature

Guys I need your help again! A few months ago, I noticed that the heater on my E30 (318i M40B18 engine) was not producing hot air constantly. So, I decided to clean the cooling system on a specialized workshop. Given the opportunity, the thermostat, the water pump and the fan clutch were replaced wi...

Re: Help please with econometer problem

Just a quick update on the issue

Finally, I managed to find a Motometer Si Board in good condition. I changed the batteries, swapped it with the old one (VDO) and voila: my econometer came back to life

Re: The part that controls idle RPM is broken

The part that you need is an Idle Control Valve (ICV). Go to https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?product=P&archive=1 and type your VIN (7 last digits) on the "serial number" box in order to find the correct part number for your car. It's an easy but expensive fix if you decide to install the OEM...

Re: 1988 318i Prefacelift restored (almost)

Thankyou for all the feedback guys, just can't wait to ge it MOT'd and the brakes sorted, which is proving more troublesome than sorting out the bodywork. The wheels........ I always had in my mind to lower the car and fit BBS type alloys to her but, came across a spare set of steel with great tyre...

Re: Malachtgrun 320i cabrio from Australia

Tzantushka, your attention to detail is outrageous! I dare to say I'm more impressed from your work than from your car (which is fantastic anyway :) ).

Keep up the good work dude and keep posting pls!

As I already mentioned, the car was in a garage for many years, so the following works had to be done in order to return in its working/original condition: 1. New tires (in wrong dimension though - 195/60/R15) 2. New battery 3. New cluster batteries 4. New Sachs shock absorbers 5. New clutch pumps 6...

Re: My 1988 318i

Lovely looking original car. How have you kept this car so scratch / dent free in Athens? I notice you have an optional cassette holder as well. Cool car. The first owner of the car was a Greek/American, who was spending his summers in a Greek island. So, the car, for the most of its life was store...

Re: Help please with econometer problem

NiMH batteries in place of NiCd and their capacity is irrelevant. There is no electronic circuitry on the econo/tacho instrument itself. It is simply two independent analogue meters built into the same case. The econometer does not use any signal from the tacho. circuity. It uses the fuel rate sign...

Re: Help please with econometer problem

Thanks Paul, I've already read the article. My Si board looks like new (no spilled battery fluids) and the batteries are also changed. I don't know if the capacity of the batteries is correct because the were installed from the previous owner. The original Varta were 500mah NiCD, these are not NiCD ...

Help please with econometer problem

Hello guys! I own a BMW E30 318i (M40), late 1988 with only 62K kilometers. The only thing which is not functioning properly is the econometer, which moves on the other side when I turn on the car but stays there regardless of the speed. The Si board batteries (NiCD) have been replaced and I also to...
