Re: Bob's Design edition Neongreen 318 Cab
And that's it, your pretty much upto date. Oh, almost forgot, also replace the clutch slave cylinder as that decided to start leaking. Really happy with it. It's took 5 months and near £1000 in parts overall. I'm going to enjoy it this summer and save some cash ready to bring the interior upto stand...

Re: Bob's Design edition Neongreen 318 Cab
Great thread. Funny seeing this since I saw this car listed when I was looking out for an E30 and really fell in love with the colour and the matching upholstery piping. Good to see it's well taken care of. Also slightly puts me to shame since you seem to be far more thorough than I was with my 318...

Yeah, for now it's had a quick sand down and a blast of black just to neaten it up, but will be removed in future when the braking system is overhauled and done properlyCloggy Saint wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 2:22 pmLooking good. Are you going to paint the brake servo? They're always scabby and let down otherwise clean engine bays.

It's been a while since I've updated here, AS I've said before, my Instagram is always most upto date. Go follow @doomgess_e30 Firstly, as suspected, my camshaft is shot. All the cam lobes are worn flat on the open stroke, this is most probably due to worn lifters. There is also signs of were on the...

Re: Bob's Design edition Neongreen 318 Cab
Well, the head is off. Judging by how oily the exhaust valves are on cylinder 1, 2 and 3 I'm guessing the valve stem oil seals are shot. Next step is to disassemble the head to check for cam and valve wear, and check condition of the lifters, I suspect theres going to be a few dead ones from the tap...

Honestly if it takes 6 months longer because of funds or whatever your better doing it. Obviously a previous owner was less than thorough and when a bolt went missing they thought f+2k it 3 will do. Do it all or as much as you possibly can, if your going to keep the car. You’ll put it back together and think, wish I’d done that bit, and that and I could have reached that bit to. If your keeping the car it will never get into that state again cos your an enthusiast and will keep on top of it. T...

Its purpose is to allow the engine coolant to flow through, warming up the oil capers as they enter the throttle body from the rocker cover breather to stop them solidifying back into oil. Thanks a million.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 1:30 pmThat's definitely the connector for the CO pot, and on your car should be left disconnected.
Some late M40 engined E30s, after lambda sensors and emissions equipment became standard, were fitted with AFMs that omitted the pot. for cost reasons.

Re: Can somebody identify what these wires are for?
It would help if you gave some idea of where in the car we are looking, what colour the wires are, but I'll assume it's the engine loom and the wires are grey/black. If so, and your car does not have a cat. and lambda sensor, then they should be connected. There is a potentiometer, under a red cap,...
