Re: 320i High Idle/Surge Issue solved...almost.

@flybynite please post your high rez pics of this engine bay. They are so rare to come across, making research hard.

Re: 320i High Idle/Surge Issue solved...almost.

I too had high idle in my E30 323i Jetronic, and this was after replacing every vacuum hose and connecting it all up correctly. The cause was a leaking brake booster that was pulling air into the engine from the interior of the car footwell. But the OP asked whether having that valve missing (part 1...

ireland engineering in the US sell a racing dynamics style manifold for about $850, & they say it fits RHD.

just checked, they are out of stock at the moment :(
I saw that as well, but would really like confirmation on that before ordering and shipping from the US.

Re: New member with 323i

Late 323i's from mid 84 had the bigger diff (I never broke a 168 though), 150 bhp and they gradually erased some of the under bonnet nonsense like that ridiculous vacuum retard system fitted to manual gearbox cars. 150 bhp cars were less cammy due to the improved lobe profile. The 260 manual box wa...

Re: New member with 323i

The OP's car is very nice, and very clean engine bay. I had (and still have) one of the first 150 bhp cars. I have had it for over 30 years and it has been in the family since '86. It was the piston-slap that got me I am interested to know when the change to a 150 bhp variant occurred in the life of...

Re: 1985 323i

There is nothing that Schmeidmann can get from Germany that Cotswolds BMW on here can't. After seeing the report on what they did on the M3 'restoration' they did (and what they charged) I would not get a washer from them out of principle. I have had dealings with Andrew Malekidis myself that have ...

Re: 1985 323i

Schmiedmann in Denmark has literally 90% of the parts for the RHD 323i. I should know because last year I did about 8 orders from them when restoring my 323i. They get it direct from the BMW warehouses in Germany, so there is a week wait for each order you do, but they can get it all. Use realoem do...

Re: Aussie E30

Also replace the batteries on the SI board with new Nicad 1.2v from Panasonic. Only if the existing ones are 1.2 volt AA sized NiCd. I recently went through a batch of about 25 SI boards, and only two of them had NiCd batteries. The rest had the later 3 volt Manganese dioxide 1/2AA batteries. It's ...

Re: Aussie E30

Here is how the cluster comes out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og0mN9NLl6s And how to replace the odometer gears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K3Xhu4qrL8 Mine were as bad as above. I purchased the gears from Garagistic, they do a kmph version of both VDO and Moto. If you use the older style VD...

Re: Aussie E30

When putting my E30 323i back on the road I found the ODO not working. I followed a youtube video to remove the instrument cluster, then the ODO, and replace the gears. I purchased 2 gear sets for the VDO cluster odometer (with a spare just in case) and successfully did it. If you are thinking of do...

Re: Aussie 323i

Hi Coopman, Back in 2005 when I purchased the car I moved to an oiled K&N filter, and to be honest I cannot remember seeing any performance difference. During this engine rebuild I now use a dry filter, despite the K&N sticker still being on there. The aFe ProDry S Air Filter to be exact. How much b...

Aussie 323i

Hi from the land down under. I just got my 323i back on the road. It went off the road in 2006 needing an engine rebuild which has now been done, finally! A lot of things have changed in that time, not the least the disappearance of E30's from the road. I rarely see them around these days. https://w...
