Re: Original BMW DEALER FIT ICE Options

....I wish more people were still open to chatting about car audio on here. It doesn't seem ever so popular as a topic these days! I've been collecting some of the top of the line period Blaupunkt stereo equipment for years, which now comes in handy since I've got an E30. There's now a Memphis SQR 8...

Re: Correct wheels for my E30 at a decent price?

The IS was available with both 14 and 15'' basketweaves. The 318i LUX (which mine is) either came with 14'' basketweaves or bottle tops, depending on what was available at the time. Both were an optional extra on an ordinary 316 or 318i

Re: Improving bass weight on new front speakers

Glad it was useful! I'll take some pics if I get a chance over the weekend. Here are the speakers I bought: https://www.bassjunkies.com/e-5x-2.html I got them from an independent car audio place but there were only 2 left in stock. Helix still make a similar speaker which I think is a bit cheaper, b...

Black plastics were restored with Gtechniq C4 and protected with Aerospace303.

Thanks
I've just bookmarked these to do the engine bay plastics myself. Thanks :-)

Cracking job on the car - the exterior is stunning! Did you use an aftermarket front m tech spoiler or find an original?

Re: Improving bass weight on new front speakers

OK (realised I'm speaking to myself here as this doesn't seem like an interesting topic for most).... managed to get the fast rings fitted this afternoon. Forgot to take pics! But as above, I cut a disc to about an inch thick and stuck against the back of the inner wing, directly behind the speaker ...

Re: Improving bass weight on new front speakers

Just a quick update on this... my new speakers came with mini crossovers with tweeter protection. Finding somewhere to fit them was fiddly, but it gave me an opportunity to tidy up the new speaker wires in the foot wells. I removed the small plastic trays below the speaker mounting holes and secured...

Re: Correct wheels for my E30 at a decent price?

Look very nice. I also bought a new set of emblems for mine which I stuck on after a thorough cleaning of the centre caps. I still haven't got round to sending the wheels to the local wheel refurb place, mainly because the weather has been bad and I don't want to drive the car around in salt. I have...

Here's mine (hope the picture displays):

It's as you described with the angled buttons. Sounds like a faff to fit, but it's definitely going in my E30 or in my Dad's 190 Cosworth one of these days...

Improving bass weight on new front speakers

The dealer-fitted Pioneer front speakers in my car were suffering from foam rot, so I decided to replace them with something better, as the Pioneer's were the cheapest the original owner could have chosen, so not worth me re-foaming them. Anyway I settled on some Helix 5.25'' coaxials with adjustabl...

Re: New Blaupunkt Bremen

I think it looks great I really do, but the price is really steep for something that isn't even a Blaupunkt. Blaupunkt was originally part of Bosch and then sold off years ago. Since went bankrupt and a Chinese company has bought the rights to the brand name to stick on the front of what is internal...

Re: No-one but me online here. Wow...

This has turned into a nice thread! I might have got my dates slightly wrong, but when I was a 15 year old (circa 2005 or slightly before), I remember seeing my Dad's E30 in our old home video tape for the first time and remember thinking "I have to have one". That's where the obsession began. Going...

Re: Advice on what to do next...

I have a quick question on this.... I have a TD1200 limited which works perfectly (and sounds fabulous). I'm scratching my head over how I can fit it in the E30 though as I have no cage with mine, and it's not obvious how it mounts securely in the dash...? The TD1200 Limited was different to the MK...

Re: Advice on what to do next...

I had a CD700 for a while and there is still a TD1200 in the 323 (form the days of tapes :D ), It stood for 20 years and fired straight up. They were never the cheapest thing but the price they fetch now is stupid, I will be taking it all out carefully! I have a quick question on this.... I have a ...

Re: Correct wheels for my E30 at a decent price?

Thanks - well spotted indeed. I ended up scoring 14'' BBS wheels from somebody closer by, for a similar price but with tyres and original centre caps. The wheels are in much better condition than the ones in the above ad too, but I'm still going to get them refurbed so they look good as new. They ca...

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I'm specifically looking for 14's and there aren't too many for sale. Assuming I can still get hold of the centre caps from BMW?

Correct wheels for my E30 at a decent price?

Hi all, Might seem like an obvious question, but thought it's worth checking before pulling the trigger on these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Series-E30-Genuine-BBS-Alloy-Set-14-1125686-5-61-2Jx14H2/233765196019?hash=item366d7dd0f3:g:K8kAAOSwDTdfntsR They seem in fair condition (would refurb th...

Re: Newbie and may own in circa 2 weeks

Just had a chat with somebody who has fitted many alarms to E30's, recommended by BMW Owners London. A Clifford Concept 650 has been suggested. I think if I got a tracker you can allow them to talk to each other if the alarm is activated, so it's future-proof for upgrading to tracker.

Yes true!

I've heard that sometimes a tracker can put your insurance premium up for some reason though.

Is there any truth in that? Doesn't make sense to me....

Re: Newbie and may own in circa 2 weeks

Quick update.... went to see the car yesterday and fell in love with it! Everything was better than expected. The only slight downside was the very early stages of some slight corrosion on the N/S rear arch, but so early stage that it can easily be remedied and is very hard to notice unless you prop...

Thanks for the replies. Went to see the car today, made an offer and left a deposit- so am picking it up next Sat. It's been loved its entire life and is only on 58k miles, so I expected there to be no mechanical issues. The engine ran very well, and felt great to drive. It ticked over nicely and sa...

Re: Making an M40 a bit nippier

I'm no expert but I don't see anything on your list that will gain 15-20 bhp. If your current plugs/air filter and leads are knackered (leads tend not to degenerate) then you may gain a bit of grunt and a chip might give you a bit extra but nothing too noticeable. My advice would be to give it a th...

Making an M40 a bit nippier

If you've read my intro post you'll know I'm expecting to make an offer & pick a 318i M40 up very soon. I know people have asked many times about performance upgrades on M40's but with unrealistic goals of massive power increases. This is not that! I already own an E36 IS with an M44 in it, so know ...

Re: Newbie and may own in circa 2 weeks

A little bit confused, are you looking at a 318is and how much is it up for. Sorry for confusion - its a long post. I originally wanted an IS 15 years ago, but the prices are too high for me to afford one these days, therefore I've settled on looking for a 318i M40. I've found a low mileage example ...

Newbie and may own in circa 2 weeks

Hi all, Happy to be back on the forum (had an old membership a while back). 15 years ago I was adamant that my first car was going to be an E30 318IS. My dad persuaded me not to bother, so here all these years later - still E30-less and without the ridiculous budget required for the now rare IS. The...
