Re: Headunit memory settings / cutting out
I’ve managed to resolve this issue. I swapped the red and yellow connections back to how they were originally configured for the previous headunit, and this time, the headunit powered up. I can only assume I’d not made the connections properly, or one of the cores was shorting out on the chassis or ...

Re: Headunit memory settings / cutting out
Thanks both for the informative response. I'll have a look at C302, although I've got an E28 rather than an E30 I assume the setup will be very similar. It's interesting that it forms the same circuit as the dash clocks and interior lighting. I'm having a separate issue with intermittent function of...

Re: Headunit memory settings / cutting out
My radio shut off as my alternator failed and I think it has to do with the head unit not getting 12 volts and shutting down as a result. So, nothing to do with unloading as such I now believe having heard the views here. Perhaps, if you have a poweful amp, your alternator may be struggling to keep...

Re: Headunit memory settings / cutting out
Firstly, thanks all for the replies. From what I’ve read the unloader relays cut power to the wipers, fans, windows etc. to allow for enough power for the starter, and are driven from the starter itself. I don’t think the headunit forms part of that circuit and remains on when the car is started, bu...

Headunit memory settings / cutting out
Apologies initially, as this is an E28 question, although I’m hoping most of the wiring is common... I’ve recently treated the E28 to a new Pioneer headunit. At first the unit would not power up at all, so I did the classic fix and switched the red and yellow perm./ignition wires over (something whi...

Re: JCs 28
Cheers both. Looking forward to being part of the community. However… The car let me down for the first time yesterday. I was driving home from work in the snow, someone let me in front of them in traffic so I went to press the hazards as a thanks – and nothing happened, no lights flashed. I thought...

JCs 28
Evening all, I’m not sure whether this is allowed, but I’ve seen a few other E28 threads on here so I thought I’d chance it… I’ve always fancied an 80s/90s BMW as a bit of a runaround / project. I originally started looking at E30s earlier in the year, and made a few threads on this forum. My main p...

Re: New member, non-owner, yet.
The E53 X5 passed its MOT yesterday. I’ve ordered some new front and rear badges, new centre caps for the wheels and a couple of new interior lamps to freshen it up, and the car will be going on sale later this week. All being well it will sell quickly, and I’ll be collecting the E30 I’ve got my eye...

Re: Newbie and may own in circa 2 weeks
A little bit confused, are you looking at a 318is and how much is it up for. It reads as though the poster has found a mint 1991 318i 2-door in red with low mileage, believes the car to be worth around £7k, and is asking for confirmation. I’m currently looking for an E30 myself and have read almost ...

Re: New member, non-owner, yet.
Welcome to the zone, if your going to modify the e30 then I would say go for the lowest mileage and rust free car you can then after driving for a while you will get a feel of what you want from your car , looks, power and handling...... I will warn you e30 s are very addictive and will empty your ...

Re: New member, non-owner, yet.
Cheers. The X5 has it's MOT next week. After which it will be going up for sale. I've identified the E30 I want, it's just a matter of lining everything up.

Hi E30 Zone, Apologies in advance for the long post... I’m currently looking to buy my first E30. I’ve done some research in to engines and specifications, and looked at what is for sale, but I thought I might as well post up a thread to answer the last of my questions. I currently drive an E53 X5 S...
