Parked: One tire up on a block?

Howdy folks Not sure if this belongs here or another place. Either way, it’s a bit of an odd question. I’m doing some extended work in the engine bay on the old gal. I’ve left the car for a few weeks parked up with one tire on a block of wood aboit 20cm high. I only had the one block and didn’t thin...

Re: Maplight Mirror Grub Screw

I would be interested in purchasing one of these screws as mine has cracked mostly all the way through and now fails to do it's job thus rendering the mirror mostly useless at speed. It does however make the car feel like I'm going warp speed.

Re: South Africa BAUR BMW E30 318i, 1989

Welcome to the zone mate, great looking car you have there     We all like a Baur now dont we ?? Mart. Signature checks out. Being the ignorant coupe-driving-American that I am, my knowledge of Euro verts is rough at best. I do enjoy seeing the rear roof cross brace. Seems t...

Re: Help: Valve Adjustment Gone Wrong

Update: I purchased a sec of new eccentrics from ECS Tuning (they came labelled as Bav Auto brand, but I'm not really sure what brand they actually are) and installed them last weekend. Upon removing the spark plugs, I noticed that the plug in cyl. no. 2 was damaged. The gap had been reduced to 0mm ...

I use one of these tools, feeler blade with handle makes it much easer to check clearances.

Re: Help: Valve Adjustment Gone Wrong

You may also have pitted eccentrics - worn from years of use, so they have a "cup" indent from the valve stem top, which you "bridge" with the feeler gauge, so the gap, although correct, isn't, it's wider. I set mine at the cam lobes, I used a 7 thou feeler which approxiamtes to a 9.8 thou gap at t...

Re: Help: Valve Adjustment Gone Wrong

To follow up, the loud ticking audible in the video was due to me not tightening the eccentric bolt down enough. The gap was enormous. I completed another valve adjustment and the car runs pretty rough. Sputtering, rough idle. Slight lack of power. Very light white smoke (or moisture??) coming from...

Re: Help: Valve Adjustment Gone Wrong

BMW make a tool which has a pin to go into the eccentric and a spring on the end, this means as you bend the spring, it applies a pretty constant pressure to the valve/eccentric face as you tighten up the clamp nut with the feeler gauge in place - once the nut is tight, pulling out the feeler shoul...

Help: Valve Adjustment Gone Wrong

Hello everyone. I completed my fourth valve adjustment on my e30. I am having trouble getting the correct "pull" or "resistance" on the .10 feeler gauge when adjusting the gap between the eccentric and the valve. Does anyone have any advice? I adjusted my valves about 500 miles ago and was unhappy ...

Re: Cannot fill gas tank to capacity

I reached out to the PO and he said “i always just thought the tank was 7 gallons” lmao. The instrument cluster is not the original. It’s some M carbon fiber one that looks like crap. The gas light has never come on. I’ve taken the measure to get a gallon of gas in the car to do an experiment on as ...

Cannot fill gas tank to capacity

Hey everyone, I need some help diagnosing a peculiar issue on my '90 325i. I recently drove it over 400 miles from the town which I purchased the car in. I was using 91 octane Shell gas the whole time with Lucas Oil injector cleaner on each fill up. I am only able to put around 7-8 gal/26-30L of gas...
