Re: Early Euro M20 Timing Adjustment
With the crank timing mark lined up to TDC, and the valves of cylinder 1 closed, there should be a notch on the distributor body that lines up with the rotor arm, IIRC. If the engine runs, you can't be far out, so rotating the distributor should be enough to correct it. According to Autodata, your ...

Re: E30 Steering Rack to Purple Tag Help Required
I managed to get this done.. eventually. Steering hoses were the first problem - tried bending the original ones and c*cked up so DanThe sorted me for proper ones. The steering coupling will need shortening - I just took out the vibration damper and ground off the edges of the lower knuckle. Also ne...

Early Euro M20 Timing Adjustment
Hi, I’ve just changed the timing belt, accessory belts and water pump etc. on my early 1985 euro M20B20 engine. This is the one with the gear driver distributor located behind the alternator. Put everything back together and the engine turned over fine (no bent valves) and started fine but noticed i...

Early sheet metal shifter conversion
Hello all, I have a 1985 coupe with a getrag 240 which I assume will have the early sheet metal shifter without the ears for the “bitch clip” (Will check this when I get chance). Been researching how to convert this to the new aluminium style because all the good bushing kits are for that style. Cam...

Re: First time owner - 1985 320i Coupe
Being an early one,I noticed a few things like no side repeaters, digital clock, and no lock on the glove box.A great original car, Thanks man! Didn’t notice any of those things other than the digital clock. Unfortunately the Chav-spec radio is currently installed (badly) but I have the original in t...

Cheers guys, I’ve enjoyed reading a few rusty builds myself!
Thanks for the heads up about Cotswolds (definitely going to need some wings) and I think a mig welder is next on the to buy list

Re: Power Steering Pump thread stripped
Damn, never heard of those before (great idea) but it’ll mean metal shards going into the pump which would ruin the pump/rack anyway

Hello fellow zoners, Followed the page for a while before I even had a car and finally got my first thirty last month. *Warning - this car may be considered by some to be a rust bucket. 609AB3C0-2FA0-43DF-A086-E46807E53ABD.jpeg B8908E0D-FB4B-4E84-81DB-5ACA4B7E9435.jpeg 06B8BD5F-C337-4B40-BABD-F7F907...

Power Steering Pump thread stripped
So I’ve spent about 40 man hours swapping in a purple rack tag which has led to all sorts of extra jobs (new PAS pipes, new engine mounts etc.). Finally all bolted in and connected up until it came to torquing down the 19mm high pressure banjo to the steering pump. Fiddly bugger to get on and as I w...

PAS Pump - price please
How much for a PAS pump for a 1985 320i coupe? High pressure hose thread is ruined and flew off when I started the engine.
