Re: M20 2.7 and 885 head Engine identification
The pistons are fine my brother says, it was some oil that dropped in. Other than that it all seems to be sounding a bit crap! He said it was hard to measure the stroke, is there an easier way that a bit of wire? Would the sintered cam pulley suggest this is just an 885 head on an ETA block which it...

Re: M20 2.7 and 885 head Engine identification
Right, thanks for all your help, and now I have got some sort of update after some measurements and endoscopy! Looking at the images of the pistons, do they look like ETA or something else? Also I am a little confused about the other stuff. My brother measured 272mm from the bottom of the block wher...

Re: M20 2.7 and 885 head Engine identification
Ok, well perhaps this might be some good news. However my brother thinks it has standard ETA pistons from the brief look he got on his old endoscope before it broke but he won’t get the new endoscope until this eve to get a photo. Regarding the stroke measurements, he will try and measure to see wha...

Thanks for all the advice, my brother just took the cam cover off and this is what it looks like -it just looks standard, does that mean the “cowboy” build is looking likely?!

Re: M20 2.7 and 885 head Engine identification
I got it from someone near Spalding, they had a few things lying around (like a yellow Del Boy reliant Robin!) but I don’t think the engine has been in a car for some years - perhaps 10 or more but I forgot to ask!

M20 2.7 and 885 head Engine identification
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help identify this engine I got from Facebook which was supposed to be a 325 engine. I have attached some images. It says 2.7 on the block which was the first sign that I may have a problem. I think it says 27 6E A (the “2” is not really visible but I guess it can on...

Re: Sport Gearbox, no label What oil?
Thanks Stonesie, The gearchange was OK, and I think I had trhe castrol SAE 80 in before, but I can't remember exactly which one, and BMW themselves don't know what the correct oil should be it's so annoying! The next problem is that I can't find anywhere that sells the Castrol Transmax Z that you ta...

Sport Gearbox, no label What oil?
As per the title, there is plenty of stuff about green labels and yellow labels, but mine has no label, and doesn't look like it ever did. What oil should I be using in the box?
Thanks

Re: Reconditioned Steering Racks - Good or Bad Idea?
If you are doing a swap, the E36 quick rack conversion appears to be a popular one, although I have not looked into it myself. The best thing is that there is an article to guide you through it in the articles->Technical Menu->DRIVEABILITY CONVERSIONS->E36 rack conversion or this link might work htt...

Re: Reconditioned Steering Racks - Good or Bad Idea?
If you are anywhere near Leeds there is a guy that will recon yours for £90 but obviosuly you'll have to take it to him. I was going to have him do mine as I have a LHD but I just got a LHD power rack from eBay for £65 delivered, so I'm hoping that one is going to be ok so my car is not off the road...

325i leaking from head gasket by bulkhead (oil that is)
Afternoon everyone. Just looking for any available advice really from the people that know best! As the title suggests, it appears as if my 325 engine is leaking oil from the head gasket at the exhaust manifold side at the back near the bulkhead. The engine runs nice and cool not overheating (touch ...

325 cab won't turn off
This morning I drove the car down to get the new hood fitted, but when I staretd the car I noticed that the heaters weren't working (they never worked on position 3 anyway), but if I put them on (so I could clear the screen when moving at least) the rev counter stopped working until I switched them ...

Aah yes, I remember now. On the downpipes I had, it was still close to the rack even though the problem would be on the left, so it could be a problem if the rack was much wider (diameter). I feel less bothered now, can't think why I would have not remebered that when I was doing it, just when it's ...

Thanks maxfield, Problem is, when it's left hand drive, the exhaust is on the same side and it's quite tight! With an m3 it's obviosuly a 4-cylinder as opposed to a 6-cylinder 325 so I was wondering if this might mean that if there was a slight deviation in the positioning of the rack - steering col...

e36 steering rack on e30
Does anybody know if a left hand drive E36 M3 steering rack would go on a left hand drive 325 and still allow clearance for the exhaust (I have a raceland 6 branch manifold)? Are the e36 racks the same dimensions as the e30, because if they are, then it probably would wouldn't it?

Found this, it shows what the characters are for each plug. http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/technical/ngkjpg.htm It seems from this that "s" means "standard super copper core", so that would imply that it actually adds nothing, but on NGK's website it offers the two, so I wonder if the BPR6E core...

Fistly I suppose it's which is the best brand and if NGK are the best, which product number. What about the Bosch super 4? Essentially all I want to know is based on peoples experiences, what are the best plugs for my car without spending fifty nicker -I've heard that's apparently what Iradiums cost.

Which spark plugs for 325.
On the NGK website, there are two types mentioned depending on what year you car is. 325 2.5 E30 84 —a> 86 BPR6E 325 2.5 E30 86 —a> 03/91 ZGR5A My question is what if you don't know what year your engine is -and/or how can I tell. Are these best plugs to get? My engine is standard except f...

Yes, that shroud is what I cut, just a slit down it! I've been looking for the under dash bit of cardboard for an LHD, and I can't find one anywhere, all the ones in the scrappers out here are knackered! I had a brake line go on my Mondeo at Christmas (which I use when in the UK), so I got both back...

Re: Please help ! - LHD wiper motor removal (pics)
Hi Tom, I had to do the same on my LHD because the outside wiper arm ball joint wore down and popped out. Best thing is that they are different lengths to the RHD arms, so me in the UK, before I drove to Spain, had to get a long RHD wiper arm from a scrappers and cut it in half, then drill holes in ...

Thanks, I think I'll get a normal box then. Am I right to assume all ratios are the same in the the sport/325/320 boxes? If so are they all exactly the same box or is there another difference? Also, just to make sure, there won't be a difference between the box required for my left hand drive LHD co...

Hi, I don't know if anyone knows the answers to these questions, but I have a 3.64 lsd, a 325 engine and I presume I have a 320 box (I don't know if it's the same as a 325 anyway?) as the car used to be a 320, and I'm happy with the ratio's for cruising and also around town.
