Re: Reset the AFM
Thanks. So no-one knows ? No enthusiasts left maybe, TV programme Bangers & Cash auction them quite often but the rare E30 that is televised always has a detrimental comment about complicated engine management. Never seen an M3.

Reset the AFM
Morning all, hoping for some assistance! Backgroud: After 100,000 miles servicing, we have parted with the local (friends) garage, on mutual grounds and under a bit of a dark cloud. Early last year ago my wife's '89 320i convertible was booked in for an MOT and she was told it was time also for a ca...

Re: ECU EPROM Upgrade Chips Sale
Hi, send me details for a 1989 M20 320i convertible 381 . High mileage, mostly original, don't need lots more revs, making what's left work better would be nice! Part 2: I find the 'new' Ezone site awkward, so I am trying harder to buy one of your chips. My daughter found your response but she's mor...

Re: Months of tickety-boo to chaos in 5 minutes.
I wonder if the 5 times thing is happening. Does the computer reset itself after 5 starts? , today it started straight away, chugged along for a few seconds, revs climbed to exactly 1,000rpm warmed up , settled at 760rpm. It now has flat spot when hot, I don't remember any flat spot in 25 years of o...

Re: Months of tickety-boo to chaos in 5 minutes.
Dividing this chaos into two halves, the first has been an earth problem, the earth connector behind the nearside headlight was fixed down tight, there was a 'nipped' cable not too far away, so that was easy. Amazing how the car has been faultless for months,, it was hanging on a thread. The engine ...

Months of tickety-boo to chaos in 5 minutes.
320i convertible 1/4 million miles, most by my wife. Spent a couple of years tidying cleaning some paint, last problem solved was months ago, cold engine start jumping straight to 2,300 revs. Fixed this by replacing throttle sensor. After six months of complete normality, even instant idle at 7.500 ...

Crazy 3,500 rpm instant 'idle'.
I'm putting finishing touches to a 4yr body restoration to a 320i 1989 convertible. 1/4 million miles, original M20 motor mostly untouched throughout, except for occasional 5 minute warm -up, each time cold idle briefly 1,000rpm down to 600-650. Morning before new MOT idle now PULSING 1,200 to 2,000...

Re: Wretched Ratched gynaecology?
On an E30 convertible, any engine size, anywhere in the world, opening the trunk lid when the horseshoe is already open, (or vice versa) the Ratched, via the two short cables, stops the boot lid opening fully. Without the mechanism, or if the cables are broke, the two lids bang into each other and c...

Wretched Ratched gynaecology?
Every E30 convertible ever made has probably got one, yet looking for any details in the 'Zone Topics' gives Ratched a zero result. If you've ever replaced one (or both) of the Bowden cables, will you tell me how to open it up to get at the circlips or if they have to be gynaecologically operated on.?

Ate front brake calliper carrier brackets for a 320i convertible#34111160378/34111158254 new or used seem to be very scarce. More a renovation than a restoration I have recently had some help from Jon Bishop (Cotswold BMW) finding OEM bits to speed things along - until now. Hi all, Found a welderguy to help me cut out rusty-bits and remake nearside rear wheel arch. His advice is to get new repair arch to cut and weld in, and also a new outer-wheelhouse-arch-moulding to make a decent job of it. Schmiedmann do an OEM wheelhouse moulding, but the OEM drawings don’t show a...

My ”˜89 320i convertible currently has 5 different makes of tyre, all of them very basic and agricultural. Thinking back through the stuff I’ve been reading there’s no mention of coarse and fine adjusters/settings so I’m keen to give it a go to see how that works. So, the Wretched Ratched is best, (though reluctantly) repaired with replacement replica ropes of steel, parts 19 & 20 on the OEM drawing. Must break on a regular basis.

Ratched...A convertible top cable actuator lever gear box.
