A Little thread update... So Mark (the car’s owner) set about fitting the m50 b25 in place of the m52. http://imageshack.us/a/img28/4713/p1010153w.jpg He ran into some problems with the engine mounts, the mounts he fabricated for the e39 m52 wouldn't line up with the e34 m50's mounting holes. ...

Re: Safe minimum valve clearance for my noisy tappets m20b28
The simplest way to silence a noisy m20 is to remove the badge from the centre of the steering wheel and stuff some tissue paper or a rag down around the nut that holds the steering wheel in place, and then refit the badge. An awful lot of top end noise is transmitted up through the steering column ...

Thanks for all the positive comments. Sorting out the wiring was a royal pain and it’s not finished yet. Most of this was done with the m52 engine in place and Mark the car’s owner had taken some time off work to give a hand fitting the m50 and finishing off gearbox mounts etc. We decided we were go...

Re: Are starter motors interchangeable?
The ring gear is different on these flywheels so the starter has a different pitch on the teeth. If you use a m20 starter it will jam.
The m42, m50 and m52 will work though or you could use an m20 flywheel and clutch with the m20 starter but thats not really worth the effort.

Re: central locking
If you can unlock the boot, theres a small cutout in the carpet type trim on the right hand wheel arch/quarter panel liner. Push in the flap on the cutout and use a long screwdriver or fingers to pull back the tab which will relase the fuel flap. Its on page 4 and 8 of your owners manual anyway :win...

Re: Engine loses power when driving judders then comes back
This one is a long shot but it did happen on my touring once. If the car has the 13 button OBC when the unit starts to fail it can cut power to the ecu and hence fuel pump causing the symptoms you describe. This is because the obc has an immobiliser function. To rule it out find the plug behind the ...

Engine loom Only one real issue here and it’s not a biggie. This loom came from an auto so it had two X20 type connectors and a TPS with two 3 pin plugs. They are on the left of this photo (the loom is upside-down) the one on the right is the diagnostic connector. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/466...

Update So had the engine loom all laid out ready to splice the X20 plug into the Capri's car loom. The only problem was it didn't have any  The owner had cut it into three sections when stripping the car to fit the M52. Some of the loom was rolled up in the boot along with most of an e39 car lo...

Glad I'm getting some positive feedback on this project. The reason we chose an m50 was more for convenience than anything else we already had the gearbox. The prop had been shortened, we had the right sump and the engine mounts were made. I knew how to wire it up and the zone could help out if I ra...

I'd look at the stock lambda sensor first, I believe it has its greatest influence when the engine is at idle The MAF and TPS should take over at mid to high rpm. Once after doing an S50 swap I mixed up the front and rear lambda sensors, it took a while to figure why one bank kept getting leaner and...

e30 as a daily is no problem. My 325i has only left me down once in the last 6 years and 70k. Fuel pump failed after running the tank dry. Bought a new bosch pump so should be good for another 21 years. Mileage isn't an issue either (that 70k was from 170k to 240k+) on the m20 as long as oil changes...
