A Little thread update... So Mark (the car’s owner) set about fitting the m50 b25 in place of the m52. http://imageshack.us/a/img28/4713/p1010153w.jpg He ran into some problems with the engine mounts, the mounts he fabricated for the e39 m52 wouldn't line up with the e34 m50's mounting holes. ...

Try and get the top caps the same place as you're getting the koni's. They will, after all have to fit the end of the koni damper.

Re: Safe minimum valve clearance for my noisy tappets m20b28

The simplest way to silence a noisy m20 is to remove the badge from the centre of the steering wheel and stuff some tissue paper or a rag down around the nut that holds the steering wheel in place, and then refit the badge. An awful lot of top end noise is transmitted up through the steering column ...

Thanks for all the positive comments. Sorting out the wiring was a royal pain and it’s not finished yet. Most of this was done with the m52 engine in place and Mark the car’s owner had taken some time off work to give a hand fitting the m50 and finishing off gearbox mounts etc. We decided we were go...

Re: Are starter motors interchangeable?

The ring gear is different on these flywheels so the starter has a different pitch on the teeth. If you use a m20 starter it will jam.
The m42, m50 and m52 will work though or you could use an m20 flywheel and clutch with the m20 starter but thats not really worth the effort.

Re: central locking

If you can unlock the boot, theres a small cutout in the carpet type trim on the right hand wheel arch/quarter panel liner. Push in the flap on the cutout and use a long screwdriver or fingers to pull back the tab which will relase the fuel flap. Its on page 4 and 8 of your owners manual anyway :win...

Re: Engine loses power when driving judders then comes back

This one is a long shot but it did happen on my touring once. If the car has the 13 button OBC when the unit starts to fail it can cut power to the ecu and hence fuel pump causing the symptoms you describe. This is because the obc has an immobiliser function. To rule it out find the plug behind the ...

Engine loom Only one real issue here and it’s not a biggie. This loom came from an auto so it had two X20 type connectors and a TPS with two 3 pin plugs. They are on the left of this photo (the loom is upside-down) the one on the right is the diagnostic connector. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/466...

Yea the M50 is about 30bhp more than the turd of a 2.8 it replaces and probably about a third lighter, less thirsty and it won't sh1t itself every time it goes over 4000rpm.

The only problem was it didn't have any  The owner had cut it into three sections when stripping the car to fit the M52. Some of the loom was rolled up in the boot along with most of an e39 car lo...

Glad I'm getting some positive feedback on this project. The reason we chose an m50 was more for convenience than anything else we already had the gearbox. A tie rod end will most likely have a taper which may make fitting them more difficult but they would be more than strong enough.
Threaded bar should be fine locknuts if you get the thread to match the tie rod, they often use a fine thread.

From what i recall in an old Total BMW article, the cast manifold was their own design and they used a Garrett T3 or T4 turbo in their kit.
