Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
So now I find this crap. One rusted so bad I'm not sure if it's usable. The other is WELDED in. https://i.ibb.co/1GPsCmm/PXL-20210811-212839858.jpg https://i.ibb.co/GMHCw7Y/PXL-20210811-212827152.jpg A good set of uprights is now on its way to me from California. Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
Got some work done on the spit over the weekend. Last night I welded the shaft into the c channel. Now gotta get the other one finished as well. Going to have a think about some bracing too.

Bulkhead Insulation
This is regarding the sound/heat insulation on the engine side of the bulkhead. I've priced up a new set. So now I'm wondering about alternatives. I want to maintain the comfort/sound deadening of the original car. Is it that bad without, and maybe add an extra layer of underlay inside the car? Or i...

Good tip!Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 6:49 pmIt's a good ideal not to try to sort out the part numbers for these obscure bits, and to leave it to the dealer to identify from your description. That way, if the wrong part turns up, it's the dealer's fault and not yours.

Re: Wiring plug terminal ID help
Ok never mind, I got it haha.
Weird that most of these aren't on realoem.
Blue one is 61131378402. Not sure why they changed the colour. 90 deg version is 61131378418. Going to need all 4 of these. Horns, fogs, washer bottle, speed sensor, and fuel pump/sender.

From my research maybe it's 61131378402. But those are grey. At least the shape of the plug looks correct.

Wiring plug terminal ID help
Hi all, Looking through my loom and there are a few terminal plugs that were out in the elements and they crumbled when I took the car apart. The terminal ends inside seem fine. Looking for the part number on the blue guy, nothing on realoem. Seems like these blue ones are used for the horns and the...

Re: Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
Thanks folks! I have definitely watched retro power, and would love to have that kind of job done. Follow up question would be, how to get the underside of the car blasted properly? Something like a paint stripper to get the majority off, and then blast it? If blasting the underside is not going to ...

Re: Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
While we're here, whats the general consensus on deleting the "jacking pads"? I think I'll coat them well enough that they'll last this time, but if they really arent necessary I'll save the expense/hassle. Better to keep original in case of future sale?

Re: Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
Looking at your shell, I think it is not so bad and the work in hunting down the rust, grinding it, treating it and etch prime is still less than re- seam sealing an entire shell but it is never an easy call. This is the kind of experience in looking for. I think Barry's process on the M3 is what I...

Re: Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
I've been counseled by some to look at acid dipping the entire shell. I have to say it's appealing, if it was local I'd be all in. But I would need to bring the car to Toronto, 3000km away.
Still, I'm considering it.

Re: Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
Thanks so much for that. I've been told a bunch that it's not worth prying out the sunroof tray. I think the problem is that most people in North America don't experience the weather that we do. Newfoundland is much more comparable to coastal northern Scotland than most other places in NA.

Body Shell Refurbishment Advice Needed
Taking opinions here while I have time to make up my mind. I have a lot of work to do to this shell, no doubt. One of the things I've been considering is completely stripping the shell to near bare metal, including popping off the sunroof cassette so I can get at the join between it and the roof ski...

Re: Wiring clip part number request
Right on. I'll find something suitable, like the one I pictured, to replace. I'm just happy I was able to find the 16 white clips I needed or along the inner rocker. Bit expensive but I don't think there's a good substitute. And they ALL broke off, not one came out. Most wiring clips on the car actu...

Re: Wiring clip part number request
Yeah, that's my problem. Can't find mention of this clip anywhere in any catalog.
On my car, they hold the wire under the back of the rear seat where it crosses the car. There was also one holding down some wires on the steering column support.

Wiring clip part number request
Anyone got a part number for this guy? I broke a couple where the wiring goes under the rear seat and I've scoured the internet and come up short. I managed to find some of the white ones for along the rocker on fleabay.

Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
Got my sunroof out and headliner down. Cassette looks to be in ok condition, the passenger side rear drain hose looks to have some junk in it. I also have to split the sunroof itself to deal with some internal rust. Looks like the glue BMW used for the headliner foam also was a little corrosive, the...

Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
I was curious about my wiring loom. So I started tracing all the connectors to their corresponding ECU pin. Everything looks good, corresponds to the DME 3.1 diagrams, to match the 403 DME I have. I labeled everything, and I pulled out the auto trans cables. Will be easy to splice my E30 engine side...

Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild

Re: 1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
Finally some good news. I was looking at my engine harness to see if I could use it with the 403 DME. Unfortunately the pinouts dont match. But when I tried to confirm a couple pin locations, they werent in the right spot. So I checked the pin locations against the early E36 non-vanos pinout. Lo and...

1989 325i Sedan Rebuild
I decided to kick off this thread. I fully expect this to take 4-5 years minimum due to the time and capital required, but I have to start sometime. Car has been in my garage now for over 3 years. History on the car. I'm not sure when it came to Newfoundland but definitely late in life, as the drive...

Thanks for the kind words. The last E30 resto that we completed was delivered to us as a freshly pai...
