Re: Can’t reset service indicator light.

The service indicator wont reset if the batteries are done and in my case the rev counter was also out of action. You will be able to identify the batteries once you have the cluster apart and important to put the same type batteries back in. Not a difficult job but you will have to solder in the r...

Thanks. I've always used the same approach so I know im doing it correctly, its just stopped working now and i think this is because the SI battery needs replacing.

Can’t reset service indicator light.

I tried to reset the service indicator light using the usual wire trick but this time it didn’t work. I think this means the SI battery is knackered, is this correct? And is replacing the battery as much of a bastard as it sounds?

Re: Damp area around fuel pump - advice

I had similar darker pattern around the breather hose and a fuel smell outside the car. Decided to change the hoses and replace fuel filter first and that fixed the problem. I’ve left the hoses around the fuel pump alone.

Can’t reset inspection lights…does this mean SI battery replacement?

Hi guys
As above, I can’t seem to reset my inspection lights by shorting pins 7 and 19 and waiting 5-10 seconds with ignition on. Does this mean I need to replace my SI battery. Is there a way to tell which SI battery my car will have Before I take it apart?

Oil leak, front right hand side of the engine.

Hi guys I have an oil leak just started last week or so on the front right hand side of the engine. It’s not the attachment to the oil cooler, it’s a 6 inches back from that. I don’t think it’s the oil pan or sum plug, but there is some dripping from there and it’s further forward than the bell hous...

Re: Brake Bleeding

Bought and used a gunson ezibleed yesterday from Screwfix £25 cheaper than Halfords. Really easy to use. Took about 30 mins all corners and to push through 500ml of fluid at 15psi. My advice is that the black air pressure tube from the spare to the gunson bottle needs a slight tug out from the bottl...

Thanks fly I’ll have a go at that. The problem is the hole the bolt sits in means i cant get a spanner in I can only use a socket. I’ll try and find a smaller spanner. Cheers

It might be worth posting the diagrams on here. Someone’s bound to need these in future. I wasn't monitoring this thread sorry. Yes after much faff i did get this sorted. Turned out that it was some sort of speed sensor inside the gearbox that was giving the wrong voltage so the ECU wouldn't change ...

I’m about to replace the rear shocks in my 325 Cab. Does anyone know about the new E10 fuel arriving in the UK later this year? I heard that it perishes older fuel lines so I’ll change them as mine are probably due for an overhaul. Thanks Brian, I may have damaged the sump myself when lowered the sump down onto my toolbox last year. How easy is it to remove the oil pan without removing the engine? I’ve read on here that it required jacking the engine mounting bearings on wood, removing steering rack etc. I might just send it t...

Hi guys I noticed a small oil leak from the bottom of the bell housing on my 325i manual. Pretty sure it’s coming from higher up and not the housing itself. Bilstein don't need the oil for heat transfer because they are 'upside-down'

Nothing stopping you having some in there to stop rusting etc etc.

Just make sure there is no water in there to freeze, oil is a good way to do that.
Thanks mate saved me some drama there.

Urgent question, whist my car is up on blocks!

I’m replacing the front shocks with bilstein b4. The old ones (which were red no idea gas or hydraulic) are totally knackered. When I took the old one out there was oil in the tube which was expected as Bentley manual recommends 25ml ordinary engine oil for heat transfer. BUT is says don’t replace t...

Re: Temporary cutout approx 30 seconds after driving off.

Unfortunately, you've given two condradicting aswers in the last two posts. If the tacho. drops out, then it indicates an electrical fault to the ignition control circuits, such as a crank position sensor beginning to fail, or a dodgy DME relay. An AFM fault would give a problem with the fuel injec...

Mine did this...but at random times - usually when cold. I cleaned the AFM track and moved the wiper a little and it was better - but the fault showed up again and became really bad - I replaced the entire AFM and it's never done it since. It feels like a half second with the ignition off - really ...

Temporary cutout approx 30 seconds after driving off.

I’ve had an issue for the last few years that is not major but it is annoying because I can’t find the cause. When driving off from cold the car suddenly jerks and engine seizes for a split second. It’s more than a standard cut out as if I switched the ignition off for a split second, it’s as if the...
