Re: Confused about model/ variant
Ah ha...making a bitbmore sense now. Problem is my front valance has a lot of rust at the edges and was going to replace. Will a standard pre face lift valance accept the chin spolier. Also noticed my valance is smooth wheras others have the factory stone guard finish ?

Used to have a 325 cab and it had headrests on the rear seats. Looking at buying another cab as i miss it and the one in question doesnt have headrests ( nor does it have holes to put them in so they are not missing). Were they an option ? Can they be retro fitted ? ...thinking i could get hold of t...

drivers bolster is ...well...lets say you can tell its 20yrs old. It is still firm and where it should be (oo er missus!) but the leather is starting to wear. I plan to clean up the seats and refurb them a little to make them look much better.

Re: new gearbox - what do i go for ?
update : aparently there is such a thing as getrag 242. its very similar to the 262 for the "user" but is internally different. the guy at "all gears" (thanks to shorty73 for the link..bmw-gearboxes.co.uk) was really helpful and gave me lots of advice. think i will go for the tech1 sport box as a " ...

Re: new gearbox - what do i go for ?
car is a 325
box is dogleg. markings imply it is a getrag 242 but i dont think this exists. i wonder if is a getrag 262 (dog leg fited to the 323 and the guy who took down the markings for me whilst it was up on his ramps made a mistake / couldnt read the numbers ?).

Re: gearbox - recon or replace
i have a 325 with an LSD. i have no idea what the ratio of the diff is though. i will try and find out. the dogleg is a pain in the arse as its hard to remember what gear you are in. i just want to get the ratios right. i cant work out what ratios i have got so its hard to decide whether to go for a...

Re: new gearbox - what do i go for ?
mmm. food for thought. i guess my car is different due to the LSD - i have no idea of the diff ratio. i will try and see if i can see any markings on the casing. if i get a 320 box and propshaft will it fit my diff - ie is the back end of the prop shaft the same ?

Re: new gearbox - what do i go for ?
sorry if this is a silly question - what practical advantage will i notice with the close ratio box. bearing in mind the torque of the 6 pot engine is it necessary to have close ratio. i am not racing - just track day fun. changing the propshaft sounds like a whol load of hassle to me - will it fit ...

gearbox - recon or replace
i have a dogleg box in my track car. its making funny whirring noises and i am told the bearings are on their way out. is it worth gettting a recon done or shoudl i ditch the box and replace with a second hand one. yeah it has been "used " / "abused" . the engine let go big time last year at croft. i am told that if the whiring noise stops when you dip the clutch its the box and if the whiring noise stops when you lift the clutch its the clutch release bearing. the guy i use is a BMW specialist with years of experience working for the main dealer so i trust his judgement. did a track day yeste...

Re: new gearbox - what do i go for ?
its making a whiring noise which stops when you dip the clutch. apparently its a sign of the main bearing on its way out ???? how much will a recon cost me ??
dont want to change the diff as its an LSD and seams to be ok.
