Thanks for the fast help. I did measure 3.5mm, I thought we got mostly euro spec items.

Re: OEM M20 Pistons
I found this article, have no idea with french.
Halfway down it shows the type of piston I have in a series of three photos, it looks identical to the second one. Lists it as a 10.2:1

OEM M20 Pistons
I picked up a short block assembly for $50 about a month back, all in fairly good condition. I'm just wondering what CR ratio the pistons are. My checks on the zone haven't really helped as the pictures are the same for the US 9:1 and the Euro 10.2:1. The images in the link below might help a lot. I...

Re: L-Jetronic+731+B27
No idea on how it should run with L-jet?
I'm sure it will flatten out at around 5000rpm, but anything else?

L-Jetronic+731+B27
Hello, I've recently acquired a great condition bottom end and a 731 head (still part of a running 323i) which are both being rebuilt to factory specs by myself. I've done some reading and i've pretty much got the consensus that everyone updates to motronic. Engine will be 10.2:1 compression judging...

I've looked at the Haynes wiring diagrams, but the electrical troubleshooting guide seemed clearer.
Page 31 has the wiring diagram which may help.

Starter only works when car is cold?
I've had some issues with my car cranking after it's been parked for more than around 10-15 minutes. Car is an Australian delivered 1985 323i manual 4 door. After pulling the starter apart around 6 months ago and testing the motor and solenoid were working I put the thing back in and it worked well ...
