It is a brake pad wear warning light. This went off for as while but now remains on all the time. Have changed the front pad sensor and the rear one looks ok. Dont know what do next!!

Warning brake light on the dash-RED
The warning brake light has been on (on the dashboard) for a while now. Checked all the pads (changed the front not long ago), checked the brake fluid all ok. Please help!!

I had the same problem a while back, changed the tensioner didnt cure it, in the end I changed the chain by myself @134,000 mls..the engine sounds very good (sweet) now

It sounds like a tensioner isnt doing its job or the guides are not properly fitted- (m44 & m42 tensioner the same part from BMW). I changed my chain two months ago (only the chain) and it sounds better than it was. I dont think u needed to change the sprockets anyway. I would take it to a proper BM...

Some1 in BMW garage told me that, it should be changed @ 100,000 ( might be wrong)...and I changed mine @ 134000 as it was making a load of noises (only the chain..the sprockets looked okay). I would say as long as it doesnt rattle..u shouldnt worry too much (dont know if there is another way of che...

I would definitely stick with a M42 engine as any conversion will cost u and the car will NEVER be the same ...best to be original (my opinion). Or just buy another E30 and break urs.

Definitely a chain m8 on ur 318IS. It is a double chain..and I have heard a few cases (very very*100 rare) on this Forum & outside...."that the chain has "snapped".

How do I connect them to the fuse box & on dash? Do I need a relay (K8)? and have got a switch for electric window...is it the same as the f/front fog lights one?

Engine misfires after changing the chain
as above, m42 318is,misfires & misses at idle speed. It is ok when driving and just failed MOT b'se CO is too high. Please help.

I have just changed a timing chain on my 318 IS & put everything back together. Does any1 here know the best way (procedure) to bleed the coolant system. How many litres of water+antifreeze will I need to fill the radiator?

Does anyone here know which way to un-do this bolt (clockwise or anti-clockwise) on 318is?. I have been trying all morning with no joy. Can I remove the chain without un-do the tensioner?

Cam sprockets bolts position & TDC
I am in the middle of changing a timing chain from my 318is. How do I know the cams are on TDC?..and the bolts on the cam's sprockets seem to be bolted in different angles (one side-all in the middle & angular in the second one..to the right)...and according to Brendan's site they shoud be 15 rivets...

It hasnt been straight forward as I thought. I had a little bit of a problem when trying to undo one of the bolts (water pump) just it wouldnt come off in the end I cut the head off !! Timing chain on 318is
I have managed to strip the engine & get to the chain. The Cam sprockets look ok but how would I tell if they are worn? Do I really need to change them too?
