Re: Rev counter radio etc stopped working

There is a splice of red wires which power the instruments in question inside the wiring loom travelling below the passenger side (UK) seat.

It corrodes badly inside and needs sorting out.

I think it's splice 319 on the factory diagrams

Re: Thermostat help

I'd go with genuine. I had major hassle with a cheap one which came on the car i'd just bought. It was very new but I was forced to drop the money on a BEHR one after some overheating...

Flawless now, even in this heat romping on it just to make sure.

E30 M44: fuel, spark, no start. Very odd symptoms

This is my last gasp at getting the engine running before I break the car! It's a fucking nightmare! Let me explain.. This is the 2nd M44 i've had in the car in the last two months. Fuck knows what happened with the first but here is the current state of things. Fuel pressure is fine (haven't had it...

Re: Need help diagnosing gauge problems - no fuel, tach, si.

I'd suggest investigating 'splice 319' in the nearside sill. A bunch of live wires converge here to power some of the things you have listed which failed.

Brake fluid reservoir clearance.

I'm a little short of room for my brake fluid reservoir after an M44 swap.

Does anyone know of a thinner reservoir from another BMW that would fit?

Thanks, Brian. Your help is much appreciated! I'm happy that my suspicions were correct but :x for fucks sake what could it be then! I guess I'll strip down the intake side, have one more look over that and test that my makeshift injector wiring works on one of the other injectors. Failing that I mi...

Re: One injector not firing

Update! So I got hold of a replacement ECU, swapped that in and the problem is still there. If you turn the engine over with no spark plug in cylinder #4 it doesn't push any fuel out. If you hook up the power for a different injector and do the same you get fuel spray pushed out of the cylinder. Eng...

Well... if anyone knows of an M44'd car somewhere in the mid Wales / English border area please put me in touch with them.

I can't just buy an ECU because the EWS on it will not even let me turn the engine over..

Re: One injector not firing

Some follow-up I swapped injector wiring #3 onto injector #4 and I get fuel spraying in cyl #4. I also checked for continuity with the engine running between earth and the earth wire #4 injector (so checking that the ECU is switching the ground for the injector. The multimeter beeps as if it should ...

Thanks for the replies. Yes the problem remained on the same cylinder after swapping injectors twice. Is it right that there is 6 volts across the connector for the injector with ignition on but no cranking? I don't recall checking continuity with ground from the switched earth but will do.. I'm wor...

One injector not firing

Engine is a 1998 M44 (it's in an E30 xD) which I've swapped into the car recently. The car had a running M42 in it before that. Car starts on the turn of the key but only runs on cylinders 1,2,3 but not 4. There is spark on all 4 cylinders and compression in all 4 cylinders.. There is no fuel gettin...

is my DME dead?

Hello. I have just swapped in an M44 into my 1990 E30. It was all going relatively well until I knocked the DME very briefly onto the live terminal on the battery... there was a spark and after this the fuel pump relay makes a rather horrific noise and only puts out about 6 volts towards the fuel pu...

I bought a couple hundred quid worth of bearings, coils and such for a good price.

I had the same treatment with asking for scans of the card. I was very suspicious but it all checked out after some googling.

Re: Brown temp sensor wiring

Brilliant, between this and the wiki I have a plan!

As I've wired in the temp gauge feed from the M44 to my C101 plug I'll just cut into the wiring near the M44 temp sensor and extend that to the thermostat housing which I think is where the brown sensor will go.

Thanks.

Brown temp sensor wiring

Hello

I'm going to be fitting an M44 into my E30 but will have to use the M40/2 brown temp sensor for the gauge cluster.

Any pointers for the wiring before i start digging?

Try pressing 1000 and 1 to see fuel remaining.

I think the coding plugs determine this as I have does the same retrofit (minus cruise control) and it reads my tank as 55L when I know it is 63L.

Re: Front pipe to manifold stud snappage....

Similar problem for me. My studs were spot welded into the manifold and I had to remove the manifold to remove them, clean it up and weld new ones in.

It's a bit of hassle and some time but the manifold can be taken off with the engine fitted.
