My fuel pump seems really noisey (well I assume its the fuel pump!), is this a sign that it needs replacing? or do they just run like this? are the expensive to replace?

I remember I had a mk3 XR3i once and had a well noisy pump but lasted for ages!

Im thinking that the 1st job you should do on that is route teh RCA cables properly!!
