Which version of INPA for '89 M20?
I've just tried to run INPA diagnostics on my mates '89 320 but the oldest model it seems to cater for is the E31 8-series. Same goes for DIS. Car doesn't show up for either programs. We're using a Cable Shack round connector adaptor to a Cable Shack OBD2/usb cable. While I'm on the subject, is ther...

Drastic fuel consumption
My friend has loaned me their '91 325 auto cab which is turning out to be rather thirsty - 15mpg or less! Idling is a bit lumpy (it has an aftermarket chip installed) but runs fine when on the move. It feels like it's running with the 'choke out'. The temp gauge only just clears the blue sector unle...

Power roof problem
My friends power roof went bang (literally) some time ago & now they're finally getting around to fixing it. One of the rods on the right hand side that push/pull the roof has bent 90 degrees then snapped. Can anyone with a power roof take a photo of the two rods that run from the rear pivot forward...

Nick, Yes it's my old cab. I sold it for £3600 with the roof. I was allowing for a little rise in value but he's been told it's worth £6k. He's only done 120 miles this year so it's just not getting used. It may be regarded as pricey but compared to this it's cheap: http://www.4starclassics.com/BMW-...

A friend is looking at an '89 chrome bumper 320 auto with leather sports & 87k-ish miles. We're wondering what the going rate is. It's in very good overall condition with no rust or paint issues, good mechanics etc. In fact, I used to own the car about 3 years ago & it was in really good nick & it h...

Re: New agreed value!
Beware Adrian Flux - they're a bunch of bandits. They accepted an AV on my 635 then dropped the value by £3k after I'd paid. Didn't matter that I'd paid the premium based on the Agreed Value. They kept me hanging on for so long the 30 day cancellation period was over so I was screwed. After threaten...

Latest news - the meeting at the Dun Cow has been cancelled due to the weather (BMW's aren't very good in the snow).
The next scheduled meeting is 3rd of February although if the weather improves we may organise a get-together before that.

Raby Castle, Co. Durham meet - Sunday 20th
For all those in the North East not attending Santa Pod, there's a bunch of us meeting up for the Porsche owners show at Raby Castle this Sunday. We've attended this event for the last 3 years & it's always been a good day. Additional cars are very welcome, in particular M3's as my mates bringing hi...

Plan is to meet at Durham Services (Junction 61 Bowburn) on the A1 between 9:45 - 10:00. You two will make 14 cars. Cab sold the day after Harewood. Gone to a good home. If either of you have a spare E30 wheel brace, the new owner is desperate for one. Seems to have gone missing after he got the car.

Re: 2.5 throttle body on my 320
The point I was making was that the 5% or 10% (at very most) power increase that you'll struggle to notice is out weighed by a 21% drop in economy. That's not improving efficiency, it's making a trade-off. Cheap toy or not, I can't really see the point if you aren't going to gain something from your...

Re: 2.5 throttle body on my 320
Well the advice is still the same. If you want more power, do what BMW did - fit a 2.5. No matter what you do, that extra 1/2 litre is is going to count every time. Why do you think 2.7's are so popular? Tuning a 2.0 litre will only give power gains at the top end of the rev range - just where you d...

Re: 2.5 throttle body on my 320
the 320 has preicous little low down grunt as it is in my opinion. i have4 a 2.5 tb and manifold sittin about so i'll try that. has anyone ever put a 325 fule pressure regulaitor on a 2.0? i heard that that would increase low power. The 320 has either too many cylinders or too little capacity depen...

Cat heat shield
The heat shield on my 316's cat has seen better days - it's come apart all down one side.
Is it possible to replace these or tack weld them together (it's very thin material)?
Is the heat shield an MOT issue?

The tailpipes ready to drop off my back box so I'll need to replace very soon. ECP are advertising a CETINPRES back box for £45 & a IMASAF front section for £62. These prices seem ridiculously cheap. Is there a catch? My car has a cat so I'm not sure I need the front section (no pics on ECP site).

Poor starting on 320i
My '89 320i only gets used at weekends & takes some churning over before it fires (very lumpily) up. If I use the car more often it's fine. Also, pulling off from rest I have to be gentle opening the throttle or it tries to bog down (it's an auto). Could these problems be related? If it had a carb I...

Two things to take note of here: 1. 100w bulbs are illegal for road use. I know this cuts little ice with some Zone members but they you are. 2. The wiring isn't up to scratch for these. I'm sure someone will contradict me on this but I did lose my Opel Manta in a car fire & the finger was pointed a...

any copper who pulls a car for german plates obviously has nothing better to do and is a total jobsworth. No, it's called upholding the law. It's what they're paid to do. They don't make the law, they just enforce it. You wouldn't complain about them being "jobsworths" if they upheld the law in you...

Re: Heated rear window on a Weismann hard top
On taking the roof off it all becomes obvious. The "spikes" do transmit power up one side & down the other. The plastic centres had broken up which I knew about but I hadn't realised the connector had come completely adrift. Fitted the new plastic inners which the previous owner had bought but not f...
