Yes taking the camshaft out is required and that is it, when putting everything back in put camshaft back to TDC then set the valve clearences. Best to get a Haynes manuel bud.

My headgasket blew a while back and bacicaly it is best the get your head (cylinder head) skimmed, then clean all surfaces with abit of thinners. new head gasket new inlet and exhaust gasket. Also a good idea to slap a load of head gasket sealant on all the surfaces that will be clamping the gasket....

Been wanting to get my dad a touring for ages for a prodject but simply doesnt have the time.. or a touring lol. Good to see someone working on one. Nice work buddy!
